We were walking around the Upper West Side when we noticed that part of West 72nd Street and Columbus Avenue had been cordoned off by a film or TV production. Was it more Bruce-and-Halle filming? Or August Rush? Or Dedication? Or a Law & Order? But actually it was Reign O'er Me. Gothamist wracked our brain, because the name had sounded familiar... and then we found a production letter: It's the September 11-related movie with Adam Sandler and Don Cheadle. Oh, boy. On IMDB, it's called Empty City, and the description is this:
A man (Sandler) who lost his family in the September 11 attack on New York City runs into his old college roommate (Cheadle). Rekindling the friendship is the one thing that appears able to help the man recover from his grief.Cheadle plays a psychiatrist, and last we read, Jada Pinkett Smith was going to play his wife, with Liv Tyler playing another psychiatrist and Saffron Burrows playing playing a patient of Cheadle's character who has "entanglements with both" men. Hmm! Now, the film is written and directed by Mike Binder, who we're predisposed to dislike because we hated his baby, The Mind of the Married Man, aka, an HBO show almost as bad as Arli$$. But The Upside of Anger wasn't that bad, so we're hopeful, as we do like Sandler (hey, he was great in Punch Drunk Love) and love Cheadle. And Sandler said on his website that this would be a "serious movie."
Have you seen Adam Sandler or Don Cheadle filming in your neighborhood?

Arli$$ was a great show!
They were shooting this movie on my block at 88th & 1st Ave. yesterday, or so the signs said. I left for work before any trucks showed up and by the time I got home they were gone, so I didn't see any celebrities. I can't figure out how they were going to get a bunch of drunks to behave as extras, as the only thing on my block worth filming yesterday would have been the revelers at my local Irish pub.
They started filming a few weeks ago at Baruch, and last week were around St. Marks. I was walking home and saw a truck with a rig on it to film motion, and as I passed in front, I look up and there's Sandler on a foot scooter, strapped into the rig.
That'll teach me to not have a camera with me at all times.
They've taken over the East Village on numerous days/nights lately. Trucks everywhere, impeding my walk.
Sandler's a tool - the luckiest guy in show business.
Arli$$ was awesome.
Mind of the Married Man was not awful either.
My husband and I walked by both actors filming a motorcycle scene on E 15th Street near Irving Place last Sunday (3/12) around midday. I hardly recognized Adam Sandler behind all the beard scruff and messy hair. Don Cheadle looked rather dapper, as usual.
They're shooting around 55th/1st tomorrow, I saw the "no parking" signs on my block and around the corner.
They are shooting on my block tomorrow on E. 54th between 1st and 2nd this is the third movie crew we've had this year wonder why they likes us so much!

I saw some of the filming of the Adam Sandler, Don Cheadle movie last week(3/13). They were filming in Riverside Park and along West End Avenue and 97th street.
Arli$$ is awful.
Mind of the Married Man was terrible.
Upside of Anger was cheesy.
Some dickbag PA was telling people they couldn't walk down St. Mark's place tonight. Told people couldn't go down who lived there, told people they couldn't go to work on the block, told people who wanted to get hot dogs they couldn't get them, told kids, told woman, told seniors. Junior, it ain't "thru-traffic" if that's the block you need to be on. When again did Sony get permission to shut down a dozen businesses for an evening? We like people filming our neighborhood, but this production crew had no regard for anyone.
And, somehow this contributes to the LOCAL economy.
Shutting down a whole block for half a day.
I'll say it again, it's all smoke and mirror finances.

When you have time, would you elaborate on your "hatred" for MOAMM? Viewers' opinions certainly are divided, seemingly along gender lines.
One of its pleasures, I thought, was watching Jake Weber relish his role as the womanizing scoundrel.
