Matisyahu Ditches Old Friend/Manager

matisyahu.jpgYesterday we received a number of emails regarding Hasidic reggae rapper Matisyahu. Apparently, the man has left his long time managers, also the founders of his old label - JDub Records. He has not done this for any higher powers...he's done it to move on to a relationship with the equivalent of a major label manager. The same man who "found" Nirvana, Gary Gersh.

Aaron Bisman, founder of JDub, was friends with Matisyahu at NYU. One started a non-profit label...the other started finding his niche as a musician. Their relationship was more than business, it was a friendship. Yet just a few days ago Bisman received a phone call from Matisyahu stating, "I don't know if you guys are old enough or have enough experience."

Since Matisyahu is cutting his contract short with Bisman by about 3 years, legal action will undoubtedly be taken. We wonder how his fans will react, they are certain to question his motives. One fan has a strong reaction.

He's been on the billboard charts for ages now and has outgrown his manager and label - it happens all the time when indie acts sell big.

his king without a crown Single is awesome but his live version sucks balls. His new album is crap too. one hit wonder. He's like the new Rap Rock

I can't stand the remake of "king without a crown", the first version was great and he showed alot more emotion in it. I'm sure his new manager will easily pay of jdubrecords, since he's rolling in all that Nirvana money.
