In what is becoming a slightly disturbing trend, the United States lost again in the World Baseball Classic. First, they lost to Canada, yesterday, the Americans lost to South Korea, 7-3. South Korea, who is 2-0 in the 2nd round and is unbeaten in the WBC, slugged their way to victory. Hee-Seop Choi teed off for a three-run homer in the 4th inning off of Astros pitcher Dan Wheeler, giving the Koreans a 6-1 lead. South Korea added another run in the 6th and the United States mounted a feeble attempt at a comeback in the 9th.
For the 2nd time at the WBC, Dontrelle Willis has struggled. In three innings of work, Willis walked four and gave up three runs, pushing his 2-game ERA to a beautiful 12.71. Derek Jeter went 3-4 in the game with three singles and Ken Griffey Jr. hit his 3rd home run of the Classic in the loss. In somewhat troubling news for Yankee fans, Johnny Damon has been shut down for a few days because of his bum shoulder. The Boss has got to be fuming right now considering his disdain for the WBC.
The United States plays Mexico next and doesn't really control its destiny yet. If Mexico defeats Japan tonight, the US team will control its fate when it plays Mexico on Thursday. If Japan wins, moving on would come down to tiebreakers again, which could be bad considering the US has given up 10 runs in the two 2nd round games.

This is just sad. First the US loses the last olympic basketball tournament, then the Canadians lose in olympic hockey and now the Americans are playing mediocre baseball against the rest of the world. Globalization indeed!
The Dominicans better win this thing or their players won't be able to play in New York without being booed. A visit to Washington Heights will also be out of the question if they lose (Not that Ortiz, Rodriguez, Martinez or Ramirez ever seem to care to, anyway).
BTW. I've met many people, even law school students and engineers, that say things like "I should'a went". It drives me crazy. I usually then say "I agree. You should have gone." Sometimes they notice it, sometimes it flies right over their heads.
Technically it's not "fixed". Not as long as you're including the link that includes "it's destiny". Awful.
