Staten Island Brush Fire Arson?

Saturday night's blaze across Great Kills Park and neighboring homes may have been set on purpose. The Staten Island Advance reports that fire officials believe smaller fires had been set, leading to the big one that swept across 75 acres. Apparently the weather conditions (warm, dry) contributed to the fire's intensity, and residents are bracing for brush fire season. It's always odd to think about brush fires in NYC, but we're not so different from the rest of the country.

Today, fire officials will be asking neighbors if they have seen suspicious activity. Here are tips on how to prevent brush fires from the FDNY and there are at least three brush fire FDNY units in Staten Island. And here's more info about Great Kills from Wikipedia.
