Sylvester Gets Simmons Fired

2006_03_arts_napkin.jpgHaving trouble reading that napkin over there? Allow us to translate: Doug Simmons, managing editor of the Village Voice, has been fired over the Nick Sylvester incident.

Simmons had stated after the fabricated story came out that "It would break my heart to fire him [Sylvester]." Unfortunately for Simmons, his bosses aren't as compassionate. We're guessing this means Sylvester's "suspension" has turned in to a firing as well.

A little research by the reporting-phobic Gothamist would have helped here.

Ward Harkavy, Simmons' temporary replacement, says Sylvester will dodge the richly deserved bullet and return after his month-long "suspension."

A shame.. but not a surprise considering the rag we're discussing.
