From Satriale's to Sushi: The Sopranos is Back

Gothamist was trying to free up our Sunday nights for mindless TV, but we got sucked into watching the Sopranos final season premiere. And was it a doozy. It had been way too long since we'd seen Silvio's hair and heard a bad joke from Christopher. We wonder if James Gandolfini partakes in Method Acting when he eats sushi and needs to get hefty for the part (we think yes). Anyway, we're not getting into too many details now, knowing that some of you may have TiVo'd, but we're very excited to hate Meadow (how long is Finn gonna last?) and A.J. (he's got long hair!) and wonder how long Tony and the crew last with the feds moving in on them. What did you think of last night's episode?

Here's a Newsweek interview with David Chase. And did anyone happen to see Law & Order Criminal Intent last night? It was totally a spoof on Rupert Murdoch, his Chinese wife Wendi Deng, and the power struggle for New Corp - just with more murder. And it was kind of awesome, because it involved implications of kinky sex, xenophobia and a growling Malcolm McDowell.

I'm curious to see how many of Tony's "boys" will be exposed as informants for the Feds. Had no idea Eugene was involved and I feel like we'll see them fall, one by one this season like dominos.

    P.S. - I hate Meadow too.

The L&O episode spoofed Rupert Murdoch and the head of Lazard Freres's former son in law who was found dead in Switzerland in latex a few years ago.

I say he's dead, Carmela starts to run the family and the rest of the crew wants to run it as well so she is targeted. Maybe she gets whacked end of season.

I thought that they were going to do some kind of Macbeth sort of story...Eugene's wife pressuring him to kill Tony, so they could get out of the mob and move to Florida. Tony would eventually find out, and the series could end with tony and Eugene killing each other, and everyone else either hiding in Brazil or being arrested. Yeah, and Carm yelling at whoever is left to eat thier lasagna! LOL!

But, having Eugene kill himself...didn't see that coming! Cool-VERY unexpected!

And Uncle Junior...does he REALLY have Alzheimer's, or is shooting Tony just part of an act? I suppose Tony would have gotten all the guns out of the house, when Junior started acting wacky (after all the guy thinks he's got money buried in the yard, and that some dead mobster is after him), but I bet Junior had that one pistol hidden away. Now, has he really lost his marbles, or is he just acting?

I think it would be hilarious is Tony actually dies and the rest of the season is Carm yelling at the kids to eat all their lasagna.

In all seriousness, the fact that this show is back on the air just gives me a sense of happiness inside, and I now feel a purpose for living 'til next Sunday.

I found it to be a pretty left-of-field episode with indeed, some unexpected turns. Bottom line, I'm just so glad its back!

After two years, I didn't think I would be able to get back into the show, but I was sucked backed in almost immediately. It was a great premiere and what an ending! Thank goodness that when you connect to 911, they have to come to the house to check it out even if you don't say anything. Phew....Old Tone ain't going out that easily.....no sirree bob.
