We New Yorkers do some pretty unsafe things on the street, let's just admit it. Standing in the street instead of on the sidewalk while talking on the phone or completely oblivious to the world with iPods in our ears, or just looking the wrong way, pedestrians trying to beat the light. I've seen some pretty close calls. I've actually grabbed someone by the collar and pulled them back, on 40th and 7th.

On the corner of 157th and b'way, people (including me) are often standing not on the corner where we should be, but at least 5 feet away from the corner in the street while we wait for the light to change. We constantly get beeped back onto the corner by the m4 which needs that space to ease into the bus stop. This is the kind of thing that probably happens every few blocks for the driver, who I imagine is exasperated by the end of the day and can't keep believe he's responsable for the welfare of such careless people.
