Jaromir Jagr needs to stop using illegal sticks. Penalized during overtime for an illegal stick, Jagr then fell victim to a new rule put in for the shootout that requires all participants to have their sticks measured. Jagr stick failed and he was ineligible for the shootout. Without Jagr, the Rangers fell in the shootout and lost to Atlanta 3-2.
The Rangers were their own worst enemies on Wednesday taking several dumb penalties while failing to capitalize on their power play chances. Their failures on the power play have a lot to do with their lack of a defeseman who can run their offense. Right now, everything goes through Jagr and while he is a prolific scorer, a threat on the blueline would make him much better.
Will the Rangers make a move to acquire that type of player before today’s trading deadline? They have sworn that they won’t trade their youth away this year, but with the right player they could make a run deep into the playoffs. Will the temptation of going for it all be too much?

Update: Oreo, Dog Thrown Off Building, Was Euthanized

Given the salary cap limitations and the need to build with youth for potential stanley cup contention down the road, I'm ok with the lack of a deal for an extra impact player. Even if they did make a deal for another forward, I don't think the Rangers have enough talent to prevail over the likes of Carolina and Ottawa.
Ville Niemenen for Sandis Ozolinsh - smart deal.
It's a great move considering we didn't lose any youth in the trades. Ozo was in rehab so let's not expect too much. We got rid of Ninnyman, which should free up more icetime for Hollywood, a player true blue fans adore. If we're lucky, Prucha will pick up where he left off, blazing a trail right through every opponent's netminder. Too bad we couldn't find a taker on Hossa, or Poti.
It's a great move. Ozo is exactly what they need on the power play and he has played with a lot of these guys before. That will be one dangerous power play in the playoffs.
