The NYPD's test results on various pieces of evidence in the Imette St. Guillen murder case are starting to emerge - DNA evidence is inconclusive at this point but carpet fibers found in suspect Darryl Littlejohn's home match fibers found on packing tape used to bind St. Guillen. Littlejohn, who was a bouncer at The Falls, the bar St. Guillen was last seen on February 25, still has not been charged in connection to the murder and is being transported to a parole violation hearing today in Kew Gardens. The police are looking at three rapes that happened in Queens and Long Island last fall to see if Littlejohn could be connected to them as the attacker used a blue van and tied up one victim with tape and wire.
AM New York offers some details about what witnesses believe St. Guillen said while at the Falls, suggesting that she got into an argument with Littlejohn with racial undertones. One of St. Guillen's friends is asking for Imette's Law, which would require bars to put videocameras outside their doors. The Post looks at the history of The Fall's co-owners, the Dorrians, and the Daily News thinks The Falls should close, if only because Danny Dorrian seems to have deliberately stalled (perhaps lied?) to police about what happened that night. Who knows what has or has not been said, but the mere idea of witnesses lying or not coming forward is disgusting - whether it's this case or a shooting of an unknown in a higher crime area or it's the bodyguard of a rapper during a video shoot. [Related: Infamous New York Real Estate has an interesting chronology of 218 Lafayette Street]

A video camera outside of the bar wouldn't have stopped this crime from happening, unfortunately.
ENOUGH ABOUT THIS ALREADY!
the tabloids have it covered
With all the bars in town, I'm sure we can find a better place to spend our money than the Dorrian Brother's haunts.
boo on jon. keep up the coverage, gothamist. you read the tabloids so the effete college-educated liberal elites don't have to.
"Imette's Law"? Wow, that didn't take long.
A video camera would not have helped. I'd lay odds that a politician is looking for some publicity based on this poor girls murder.
immette's law should require background checks for all persons in private security. felons should not be "protecting" people in any capacity. security cameras in all of nyc's restaurant/bars is absurd and wouldn't have prevented this tragedy.
Uh, this nice fella is playing good old race card and blaming Imette made "racially charged joke". I'm waiting for Jesse Jackson to emerge, but I guess he is too busy impregnating his various girlfriends around the country or taking money from Verizon.
The reason there are multiple posts on this case is because she is the ONLY death in NYC in recent weeks that has not been solved. Wait, correction... There are two others...
03/06/06: Investigators Look For Clues After Body Found In Queens

02/28/06: Decapitated Body Found In Bag On East Harlem Street
Police are trying to figure out the identity of a decapitated body found inside a canvas bag in East Harlem [...]
While we all know the Imette St. Guillen is high profile, but the problem with the 'feeding frenzy' around cases like this is the gossip and tendency to ignore other/similar crimes. In this case, the suspect is in custody so if it is indeed him--and nobody else--he's 100% no threat to anyone at this point. It's funny how other bodies found in bags and in marshes are ignored... And how the leads in those cases don't even exist... And how those cases are just ignored...
I reallly hope Jack offers his opinions on this turn of events.
The war is over, and CSI has won.
The crime proceduralization of our culture is just about complete. Now please excuse me while I wipe any DNA traces off my keyboard. Hey, where's my black light?
My opinion is if he's found guilty, he's found guily and should rot in jail and rot in hell.
My contention previously is ANY suspect is innocent until proven guilty. And part of the reason is to protect society from racists and hate-mongers who would rather "shoot first, ask quetsions later" than actually just make sure that the case is solid. Such as the posters in other threads who have already demanded that this guy be hanged pre-emptively. Or describing him as an 'animal' not becuase he's a criminal, but because he's black.
Don, DNA evidence has helped to solve hundreds of cold crimes and has put career rapists in jail, as well as exonerated those who were wrongly incarcerated. You should be happy we have the technology to use DNA evidence in cases.
Oh, and for those who seem obsessed with this one case, does anyone have any feelings at the fact on 03/06/06 a body was found in Queens and there are no leads. Ditto with a decapitated body that was found in East Harlem on 02/28/2006. It seems a bit odd that EVERYONE is focusing so intensely on this 'high profile' case, while nary a peep is spoken about these other victims.
Yes, it's a product of 'the media' and such, but it astounds me that so many people would want to pre-emptively kill this one suspect who is ALREADY locked up, yet have no feelings on the deaths of others where there are NO SUSPECTS so far.
Don, DNA evidence has helped to solve hundreds of cold crimes and has put career rapists in jail, as well as exonerated those who were wrongly incarcerated. You should be happy we have the technology to use DNA evidence in cases.
Indeed.
Even without the DNA, this looks like it was some excellent policework on all levels. NYPD has much to be proud of in this case.
Or describing him as an 'animal' not becuase he's a criminal, but because he's black.
You're right. Calling him an "animal" would be an insult to the natural world. He's a fucking psychopath.
"Immette's law" should keep violent career criminals behing bars the rest of their lives, no possibility for parole. Far-left liberal "give him a second or 7th chance" activists would be allowed to join these sickos behind bars if they wish. Just keep the criminals locked up. What's wrong with that?
That's justice.

"But police held off on charging the ex-con in that case because semen stains on a floral blanket wrapped around St. Guillen's body apparently do not trace back to him, sources told the New York Daily News. "
uh, Jack is still dreaming. I'm sure Jack is working overtime to get the phone number for OJ's lawyer.
Nice to know sickos have friends among far-left activists. Can't say I'm surprised though.
Um, deng, maybe you ought to think about letting it go, too...
"America did not commit this crime. One lone evil man committed this crime." --- Ronald Reagan on Sirhan Sirhan.
You remember Reagan, don't you, deng?
Deng, what part of me saying this did you miss:
"My opinion is if he's found guilty, he's found guily and should rot in jail and rot in hell."
Also--for the record--O.J. got away with murder and was clearly the one who killed his wife. You'll never hear me disputing that. And his lawyer, Johnny Cochran is DEAD. So who exactly is "dreaming" here?
Sorry if the concept of due process disturbs you. It actually works best for both sides. Because if you don't get the facts straight, it gives the criminal a way to get out on appeal or a technicality. So if you're all "gung ho" about locking this guy up, maybe you should make sure the case is solid enough so he's locked up and STAYS locked up.
????
Sirhan shot RFK (btw, who ordered illegal wiretapping of MLK). What this has to do with this sicko????
Nice try though. Next you can talk about Supreme court. Maybe we forget this sicko that way.
This black dude is a patsy. Set up by inept and corrupt Police Officials who don't have a clue and have let the trail go cold. The DNA has clearly exonerated the Black guy. The carpet fibers were probably planted. When it comes to White Chicks no expense will be spared to catch a criminal made up or otherwise.
one more comment: What the heck does Reagan to do with this issue?
Yes, he was the greatest president in the last century, but that is history now. Are you nuts?
PS: Justice is trial by jury, sentence by judge. At least that's how it is in this country.
Let's see... what countries do we lock up people who's opinions we disagree with, hmm... let me think...
Jack, you never answered a question. What do you do for a living that allows you to post and repost here all day? Even Jake and Jen don't post as many main posts on Gothamist as you do comments.
I should have known better than to expect higher thinking from someone who doesn't use pronouns. But to explain - and I'll go slowly - America, or the segment of America that you are nominating for imprisonment, did not kill this girl. One guy killed this girl. It's called perspective. And if you need to read up on it, you can use our late beloved President as an example.
Whatever. I don't argue with crazy people.
'please', if Jake ever goes all nutzoid and posts a post strictly focused on me, then I'll talk there. But otherwise, it's off-topic and simply a personal attack. But if you're serious about what you're saying--and interested in what I do--then just e-mail me privately to discuss. Sounds reasonable, right? And heck, I'll even hook you with witha Gmail accoount if you need one: gratis!
Ick, can we stop with the personal attacks. Its begining to look like Craigslist rants and raves section.

Jack - you know the answer to this obvious question. The reason why people care more about this case is that it hits close to home. Lots of women in the city have stayed out too late, goten a little too drunk, etc., and left themselves vulnerable. Crimes like this remind people that bad things still happen in New York, in places like SoHo which are supposed to be safe now. Whnen there's the remoteset chance it could happen to the average New York well-educated, young midwestern transplant, more people care about it here and nationally. Sadly, the murder of a black person in neighborhoods most affluent people will never go to strikes most people as inevitable and not news.
While I agree with you that those cases should get more air time, it should really be no surprise that this case has become more high-profile media-wise.
This is gross, but of course there's going to be multiple DNA samples on a motel bedspread. Again, just thinking about it grosses me out. It gives new meaning to the term "contaminated crime scene."
"Imette's Law"???
How bout Spring break law?
I never knew there was a female version of "beer guts" if she really did mouth off with a racial slur?
Lafayette street is safe. I've walked down it many times after a show at the Bowery Ballroom.
It's a wide, somewhate heavily travelled thoroughfare. (vehicle traffic)
Oh, instead of "Immette's Law" being focused on video cameras, why not just make it a law focused on forcing bar owners to be much more honest about coming clean about events that happen in their places of business.
If that means the bar owner wants to put a video camera up front to cover their bases, that's cool. But the real issue that hindered this case was the owners of the bar lollygagging on their story and basicaly impeding an investigation.
In my ideal, the law would force HEAVY fines on ANY owners standing in the way of an investigation and a possible strike against their liquor license.
Apologies, fellow posters, and you too, deng. Last post went too far. I'd like to blame it on my evil twin, but my temper is an only child.
Look, this case inspires great passions. It would have been great if Littlejohn (assuming its him, which I'm not doing) was off the street before he could commit another violent crime. It would be great if we could get all people off the street before they commit violent crime. But we can't. Should Littlejohn have been more obvious to folks as a violent threat? Yes, absolutely. But the fact of the matter is he served his time and he got out (the parole was a misnomer, since it was an automatic kick-in).
Lots of things went wrong here, from the head of the Federal parole board who didn't keep track of him (bank robbery is a Federal crime) to the local officials who didn't notify them so they could both keep an eye on him, to the Dorrians who didn't do a background check and then lied to the police to cover their tragic mistake. Maybe a three strikes law would have worked, maybe not. Those laws have been known to do more harm than good, also. But in the end, one man is guilty of this... the man who killed Immette. And it pisses us off so much that all we can do is scream at each other.
But
i just read an article which stated that the owners of the Falls bar settled for 100,000K in a case related to the Jennifer Levin murder. does anyone know why or what they did in that case? the behavior of these same bar owners in this case is appalling--i am just wondering what their role was in the preppy murder case. i hope they are criminally charged in this one.

You and others may want to begin your research here: http://query.nytimes.com/search/query?query=dorrian%27s%20red%20hand&srchst=nyt&d=&o=&v=&c=&sort=newest&n=10&dp=0&daterange=full&frow=0
If I remember correctly, one of the issues in the Chambers/Levin "Preppy Murder" case was that Dorrian's overlooked the fact that many of its patrons were underage.
i'm a far lef tliberal, and i want him to hang, if he's guilty
"DNA Roadblock In NYC Student Slay
"But police held off on charging the ex-con in that case because semen stains on a floral blanket wrapped around St. Guillen's body apparently do not trace back to him, sources told the New York Daily News. ""
yes, however, that only means he either panted the semen himself to make cops think he didn't do it or someone else was also involved. the carpet fibers on the tape will make him an accerrory to this crime, and possibly one of two or three killers.
i also, read in the times that the DNA tests have not come back yet... i'll go with the times before i believe the daily news's inconsistent reporting.
""Or describing him as an 'animal' not becuase he's a criminal, but because he's black.""
i don't get this at all u jerk!!! how can u say such a thing!!! if this creeps the killer i want him beaten shot hung and his member sawed off etc as much at the next guy and its not cause hes black its cause hes a visious freakin criminal murderer killer!!! >:O the fact that hes black means squat and hes probaly got a white guy workin with him too so it dont matter one way or the other..... its u whos the racist punk!!!
What's going on here?
Craigslist rants coming to Gothamist?
What's next? Meet ups for rumbles?
And, enough with the emoticons or however you spell that internet crap.
and its not cause hes in the news its cause hes the only suspect in the case and theres all this cir "" CUM "" stantal evidence against this creep!!! the reasonable doubt is for a jury of his peers to figure out and thats where real racist things are gonna come out at trial but now is not the time for that!!! now is the time for the police to decide whether hes gonna be arrested or not or if theres another guy out there and either way this creep is no angel!!!! hes got a rap sheep a mile long and hes got something to do with the murder!!!! ok maybe he didnt rape her but maybe he was the one who cut her hair and taped her up!!!! so all im saying is i dont know if hes guilty and u dont know but hes the only suspect 4 now!!
littlejohn planed the evidence himself... the semen that is.
To get a NYC bouncer's perspective on Littlejohn, see the interesting blog:
http://www.standingonthebox.blogspot.com/
if she did make that racist comment, she pretty much got what she deserved. seems like she was a general all-around cunt any way. funny how her mom presumes to know what she's like when she's not around. parents are so stupid.
homeopt you shithead. No one deserves to be raped and killed in that manner.
Perhaps a Pimpslap would've been in order, but if this is what caused him to go nuts, that cannot be justified.
Wait a minute... "racist slur, racist comment". What exactly did she say? If she said something about blacks that that guy didn't like and therefore killed her, it would be a hate crime, would it not? Because he did that to her since she was not black, otherwise there would not be a race-related argument between people of the same race. Hmmm...
Anyway, I have an American friend who told me that black males in USA commit like 8 times more murders then whites, or something like that. I wonder if it is true? Because if it is, it is awful statistics. I don't know, but 8 times more murders? Wow! It makes you wonder how safe it is to be with blacks, or live in black communities etc. But I don't know if it is reported widely or not...
Igor, you appear to be a foreigner, probably from Eastern Europe where you don't see many black people. The statistics are probably true. The missing part of the statistic is that most of the victims are black. That's typical for any permanent underclass (see France). The only time it becomes newsworthy is when a white person becomes the victim. I don't think this girl will be misssed. She seems to have been a stain on the human race anyway.
i am not blind to the racial problems in this country. in fact, as a history major i spent my final semester studying racism in the context of american history. long semester! but i think in this case, race isn't at the forefront. the cops want to solve this, very, very badly, because of the brutality. he was the last person seen with her, and they argued. if he was white or hispanic they would be all over him just the same. period.
thank you to homeop for elevating the debate with childish name calling and brutally disrespecting the dead...nice work. (prick!)
Igor & Homeopt, go back to whatever shit-ridden gulag you came from. Do not pass GO. Do not collect $200.
Poverty is the major indicator of crime in the US, NOT race. Due to inherent systematic institutions of discrimination and oppression in our country, most of the poverty bracket is made up by blacks and Hispanics.
I go back to my original hypothesis that something just doesn't fit and that Littlejohn was likely involved but probably not acting alone. What's with all the hatred and venom on here? I thought NYC was supposed to be a model for cultural and racial diversity? (snicker)
"The State Liquor Authority says it's taking a look at the Dorrian family's employment of a career criminal as a bouncer, which would seem to violate the licensing rules, as would not being of good character." -- Daily News
I'm personally grateful to a conscientious NY bouncer for protecting my daughter when she'd had too much to drink. Bar owners and tenders are legally responsible for a lot of things that happen as a result of the way they make their livings, so it's not too much to ask that they check their staff's creds. Whether Littlejohn killed St. Guillen or not, Dorrian should be prosecuted for hiring someone with a 9pm curfew!
if its a hate crime its like those denmark cartoons a few weeks ago against hte palistinians the cartoons spoke quietly with a statement and the palistinians reacted loudly with violence. so the victim imette spoke quietly with a racist comment and the bastard reacted loudly with violence by killing her
Just because she may have been verbally abusive to Littlejohn doesn't make him the killer. I think the phony cab driver theory deserves more attention -- it shouldn't be ignored because it's a particularly scary slant for NYC tourism.
New Yorkers are probably more aware about cab driver licensing than bouncer licensing, but when you're tipsy and ready to go home, you may not be looking for that license. And who's to say all cab drivers are saints? or that all their licenses are valid?
(Ironically, when I left 'scary' NYC for a job in a small midwestern college town, a town cabbie was being tried for murdering a runaway he'd picked up without telling his dispatcher. I've always felt safer after dark on NYC streets than on small-town America streets!)
