That is a serious Looney Tunes/ Wile E. Coyote / Buster Keaton situation with the SUV. I wouldn't know whether to start laughing or crying hysterically if I found myself standing inside an overturned car that just landed on my head.

Wait, wait, wait. I'm still trying to wrap my head around this SUV story. So a manhole cover under an SUV explodes and throws the SUV skyward. The SUV tilts sideways in mid-air then slams down on a firefighter who happens to be standing where the driverside window comes down, so that his helmeted head smashes through the window and leaves him standing inside the SUV, which is now laying on its side. Just an ordinary day for the NYFD, I suppose. WOW!

Is it me or is this becoming a recurring theme with New York City infrastructure. Something radical will no doubt need to be done. We live in a thriving modern megalopolis that is built on an aging frame. It began with the highways, continued with subways and now it is the electrical grid. While everyone is piling on Con Ed for failure to keep up with the various problems, they should keep this in mind. There probably isn't a solution short of a complete revamp of existing systems which will be heinously expensive and inconvenient for the residents of the city. So it's either live with random shocks and quit complaining about them or start investing our time and money now.
