A $42,000 reward is being offered in the Imette St. Guillen murder case. John Jay College, where St. Guillen was pursuing a graduate degree in crimnology, is contributing $30,000 with $2,000 from the NYPD and $10,000 from the Mayor's Fund. The police are also looking at crimes committed outside of NYC, to see if the crime fits other patterns. The media reports that there is a lot of forensic evidence for the police to go through, but they are still trying to find the man who made the anonymous 911 call that tipped the police off to where her body lay in Brooklyn. The NY Post had the brief transcript of the call:
Operator: "Hello, 911."
Caller: "I think there's a body over at Fountain and Seaview."
Operator: "How do you know? What did you see?"
Caller: "It looks like a body. You should send someone to take a look at it."
WCBS 2 went the women of SoHo are scared route, and one woman said: "It was a wake up call for my parents. My mother's really scared now. As a New Yorker you always have to be careful." Why should it be only a wake-up call to parents now? New York is wonderful is so many ways, but it's hardly a utopia without crime. We just hope people actually do try to make safer decisions and not forget about this after a few weeks.

What about Sarah Fox?
Remember the 20 year old Julliard student who was killed by what the police called a "sexual psychopath serial killer"? He strangled her and posed her body and put flower petals around it in a ritualistic killing.
That case is closed and the killer was never found.
I am so angered that Sarah Fox did not recieve nationwide media attention like Imette. Sarah Fox was a big story on local news but never made it to Americas Most Wanted , MSNBC, FOX News, etc.
WHY? Because Imettes story is more interesting because she got drunk in trendy SOHO bar and shes
criminal justice student. Thats more exciting and newsworthy right?
Sarah Fox was just jogging in Inwood Hill Park, was a Julliard acting student from a poor irish family. So the media didnt find that story as exciting as this. Interesting!
Sarah Fox did receive a lot of local attention - but I think the grisliness of St. Guillen's murder, as well as, yes, the irony of her graduate school studies, has made it more tempting for the media. And a lot of people point out that so sadly many people are murdered, but don't receive the kind of attention St. Guillen or Fox did because they are not white. It is, unfortunately, about the shock value - somehow disappearing in an area that's popular with young New Yorkers and then being killed in a vicious, vicious way.
But I do not think St. Guillen has had the easiest life - her father died when she was 9 years old (the Times said the funeral director who buried her father would be burying her, too).
How bout this?
Instead of focusing on the grisly findings.
DON'T GET STUPID DRUNK!
How bout showing what happens when you're drunk?
I can think of many, one of them Spousal abuse.
Yes, you're FREE to do what you want to do, but know that you're responsible for what happens.
Imette is Hispanic though.
I guess if she was on welfare and lived in the Bronx it wouldnt make the news.
Rev--nice, blame the victim. NO woman is responsible for being beaten by her husband or gang raped and murdered.
THANKS for your attention to the Imette St. Guillen murder. It’s you and others like you who will help break this case wide open. The killer will NOT get away with this crime! Please check out my blog (above) to see my coverage of the crime.
I dont know why you are saying the killer will not get away with this, how do you know?
There are no leads at all, its running cold.
Sarah Fox was murdered by a so called serial killer and her killer was never found and hes still in NYC.
Everyone at that time said he wasnt going to get away with this.
Also the BTK killer got away with it for what 30 years?
So please gimme a break.
And i forgot to mention that nobody even knows where natalie holloways body is.
The reason parents are all of a sudden getting freaked out about it, is because she's a cute girl, and the crime was horrific (The cute ones always get the most attention ...not that a lot of crimes in NY aren't but parents tend to look at there 20 something yr old daughters and picture them wrapped in a cheap comforter. All of a sudden they want to know who your having lattes with after class.
The only way the NYPD will find the killer is if they tripped over him accidentally.
Life ain't like The Taking of Pelham 1,2,3.
AAAAhChooo.
I agree with JC, Next time make safer decisions.
And, I wasn't blaming the victim, I blame Alcohol.
Nothing good ever came of being stinking stumbling drunk. This certainly the worst that can happen.
The did have a suspect In the Sara fox case..Make sure your information is correct before you post !
http://www.angelsmissing.com/forum/SARAH_FOX-t697.html
My information is correct. The Sarah Fox killer was never found, Yes Dimitri Scheinman was a suspect but he was never charged for the crime. There is no evidence that states he was the killer.
Make sure you read correctly before you post!
And they do have some DNA evidence - skin under her fingernails, on the comforter, etc...so it's not completely hopeless.
And, as it's been mentioned before, she's latina.
In this case it's about class not race. The articles say she went to an "elite" high school and Georgetown U. Our society still has very strong conceptions of who gets murdered and who doesn't. She falls in the category of who is not expected to get murdered. I guarantee you there have been brutal murders of pretty mid-20s Latina women who just happen to live in very different worlds in this city and didn't have the opportunities this woman had, and those murders have gotten little to no mass media attention.
As for the other poster, hello, you are blaming the victim when you say you're "blaming alcohol."
Then I'm blaming both the victim and alcohol
but mostly alcohol. aka Firewater
i'm very sorry but John Jay College is not a prestigious college, Its a CUNY school and alot of ghetto types attend that school btw.
Its not like she was a NYU or Columbia student.
no matter what women gets murdered, someone will post to gothamist about how the coverage is all wrong.
thank zog for the internet.
Has anyone investigated the possibility that one or more of John Jay College students committed the heinous crime of murdering Immette St. Guillen ? Perhaps the motive would be to set up a real crime students would try to solve and that the murder or murders belive can not be solved.
i grew up near the same neighborhood imette came from. it's a working class inner-city neighborhood with a relatively high crime rate. folks getting jumped, purses snatched, drug dealing are everyday occurances.she grew up in an apartment not a house. her mother has a strong working class boston accent.her mother's long time boyfriend is a boston cop. the so-called "elite" high school she attended is a boston PUBLIC exam school.her father was a recovered drug addict who died of aids (this was in the boston newspapers) when she was 9. this young woman did not come from a privilaged or elite background. and as far as race, she was what is known as a white hispanic(!)
First of all Imette St. Guillen was Filipino she was not White Hispanic, and what's with the "What is called a "White Hispanic" as if your skeptical about that, real Hispanics are White they are Teutonic Europeans that conquered the Americas, I've seen more Hispanics that are Lighter complected than the Italians that are so called white that live in NYC,(i.e. Argentinians, Chileans, Mexicans from Guadalajara, Zacatecas, Mexico City the rich ones, Spaniards "The Original Hispanics", Portugal, Colombia, Uruguay, Cubans,etc.., , I might add they also mixed with the indians and blacks in Puerto Rico but most are Caucasian weather you like it or not, and if you add Latin or Latino add the Italians they are the original Latinos. Open your mind and a Text book for research. take a history or anthropology course.
Is anyone clear on her ethnicity? I haven't seen anything about that. People are offering descriptions here, but is anybody certain. St. Guillen does not sound like a Filipino name.
Sarah fox was one of my best friends its been too long and too many yrs have passed! This system is sooo messed up that they had the guy and let him go then he some how "moved" to south africa! THAT'S BULLSHIT! who cares if your black or white or hispanic! Sarah was the most beautiful person i ever knew...inside and out and i love her soo much that it's 2007 and i still cry every day for my blue eyed angel! What the real question is who's doing something about it?! because if you knew her like I did you'd be tired of being silent too....I am sick of waiting for something to happen...for SOMEONE to catch this guy my question for the system is "when?"
