martha, it wasn't the gas you smelt (since it's oderless), but since the additive is part of the gas, if one leaks doesn't the other?

We just got an all-clear e-mail from our building management, after we got a warning e-mail earlier today. They didn't evacuate my building, they just warned us about it. But we're near the WTC site, north of Hanover Square and the affected area. Maybe the gas pipes with the problem don't come up this far.

It wasn't a gas leak- it was the additive ConEd puts with the gas. There was an info booth set up on Water and Wall to let people know that- also, the streets are open again.

Hmmm, the announcement we got inside 5 Hanover was that it was coned work down over at pearl and Bway.

If the smell came from Jersey, maybe it was carried aloft in the upper air, but was forced down when it hit the tall buildings of the financial district.
