The Smartest Guy on the Knicks

2006_02_sfrancissanantonio.jpgSteve Francis is obviously a quick learner; after only two games with the Knicks he is already trying to leave the team. Francis almost missed last night’s 121-93 loss apparently because his daughter was sick. The Knicks had given permission for Francis to go home after Saturday’s game to collect some belongings, but Francis wanted to extend his absence and called the team Monday morning to say he wouldn’t make the game. A plane was chartered (it’s not clear who paid for it) and Francis arrived at the arena 55 minutes before the game.

Why would the Knicks allow a guy who isn’t familiar with their offensive and defensive sets to leave the team to collect some belongings? Since he earns almost $15 million a year, couldn’t he pay someone to send them to him? It’s just another example of how lost this team is and how deep the leadership void is. Jim Dolan is making his annual road trip with the team this week. He watched last night’s debacle in person and will go to Memphis for tomorrow night’s game. Maybe along the way he will notice that this team is sinking to new depths nightly.

This season's my dream come true. I always hated the knicks and I. Thomas. Awesome.

maybe along the way they'll lose their baggage; jimmy crackhead dolan. what a bunch of fucking clowns - they're an embarrassment to nyc.

Please don't lump the Bobcats and Hawks with the pathetic Knicks. Give those 2 teams an extra 90 million dollars to play with and see if they still match the Knick's ineptitude

More importantly, the Bobcats and, to a lesser extent, the Hawks actually have a plan, and they have a young core they're building around (and the Bobcats' salary cap is 2/3 that of the rest of the league). They will most likely be shopping heavily when the bumper crop of free agents come to the market in 2007 - the Knicks won't get under the cap until at least 2010.

A good measure of the Knicks' ineptitude is their Cost Per Win (http://jazz.mostvaluablenetwork.com/general/how-much-does-an-nba-win-cost/)

Last season, the Knicks paid $104,657,559 for 33 wins, which comes out to $3,171,441.18 per win. Compare that to Phoenix, which paid $45,717,136 for 62 wins, which comes out to $737,373.16 per win.

This season, the Knicks are paying about $25 million more and will win 10 or so fewer games, probably. If they win 25 games this season, their Cost Per Win ends up being around $5 million. Yay Knicks.

if we they find a take for marbury this summer. i bet anything they make the playoffs next year.

Beetlebum - Do you seriously think they'll find a taker for Marbury? More importantly, do you seriously think they can get anything of value in return for Marbury?

There are enough shoot-first point guards who haven't won jack in the league, and they tend to have more manageable contracts than Marbury's.

Dude, you are not alone in thinking Marbury is poison. It's amazing how many teams underperform with Mabury running the point, and how many win after he leaves.

maybe we can unload him to the hawks for al harrington in a sign and trade deal. i really think francis will buy into larry browns system a lot sooner than starbury ever will. since he played with a demanding coach in two instances. with the rockets with van gundy and at college with gary williams.
