Once I had ordered a duplicate/replacement birth certificate from the city. It had gotten stuck to another person's, and they accidentally sent both my birth certificate and her's to her address.

This woman, who obviously had my name, looked me up in the phone book and called me, and she sent it over to me. Needless to say, I was pretty damn happy, since a more unscrupulous person could have used a copy of my birth certificate to... stuff I guess.

i had my wallet stolen twice last year and BOTH times it was mailed back to me.... once with my ipod, cell phone, etc. (whole purse was stolen, but they kept the purse, a book about el barrio, and my scarf.... and apparently downloaded a bunch of music from my ipod.... very bizarre), and the second time my wallet and IDs were all sent to different places by the postal service. apparently if you put a wallet in a mailbox and there's an address in there, they send it to the owner. needless to say, i'm way more cautious now (and appreciative of the USPS... though i still rarely receive packages sent to my apartment).

I think most people would mail it. I have done it before and will do it again. It is good karma.

According to the post office, PNC did give you a valid PO Box address. It's in Corbin, VA (damn tourists). Why not try thanking him with a note of your own?

Totally dirty fingernail! I had been cleaning my apartment some. But if anyone wants to send me a gift certificate for a manicure, I won't say no.

And I think he could actually read the RSVP through the envelope - I've been trying to avoid looking at the backs of the envelopes so I'm surprised (yes, I play dumb games like that).

Am I wrong or did PNC open the envelope and read the contents? How else would he know that Jon couldn't make it to the event? Nice gesture, but ewww -- reading the mail first!

It seems like the anonymous author actually knows "Jon," the would-be card-sender. That's part of why (s)he is writing a big thing.

For a week or so, when I lived in Boerum hill, the postal person was apparently on crack, and delivered mail intended for entirely different blocks. I wrote little messages on the stuff saying "this was delivered to (address), you should complain about it" before remailing.

I found a stamped bill on the street, so I put it in the mailbox. Seems like the right thing to do.

Never came across mail on the street, but I do put mail sent to me (labeled for another address) by mistake back in the Mailbox in the hope it gets there the 2nd time.
