Literati Roundup: The Week of Jonathans (and Zombies)

lethem_jonathan.gifIt's a packed week for the bookish types, with a couple of our favorite love-to-hate-them New York novelists on the readings circuit. Yeah, we're talking about the Jonathans. On Wednesday (2/22) Lethem is hosting a short-story evening at Symphony Space (W. 92nd St. and Broadway), with stories by James Thurber, Italo Calvino, and Jorge Luis Borges read by Malachy McCourt, Maria Tucci and Isaiah Sheffer. The show starts at 8PM and costs $21/25.

And not to be outdone, Jonathan Safran-Foer is appearing at BAM's Eat, Drink, & Be Literary series on Thursday (2/23) starting at 6:30PM. It's moderated by Kurt Andersen and the event costs $42 per person, includes dinner, wine, tax and tip. Which is a pretty good deal to get your meal and your literary celebrity quotas filled for the night.

On a more low-key (but still Jonathan-tastic) note, Jonathan Ames reads from his latest book of essays, I Love You More Than You Know, on Thursday night at 7PM at the Barnes & Noble on 6th Avenue and 22nd Street.

And finally, also on Thursday night at Happy Ending Lounge (302 Broome St. at Forsyth) is something you don't want to miss - Opium Magazine has brought back its monthly reading series and this one kicks off at 8:30PM with Thomas Beller, Samantha Hunt, Dennis DiClaudio, Ryan Sloane, and one short film about zombies! And it's free.

Symphony Space is actually on 95th St.

Oh, I'm not hating on Lethem, seriously, I love him. I just can't help but poke fun at New York's gaggle of serious young man authors.
