Great Glass!

2006_2_glass1.jpg

We don't give props to the great glass artists in New York City anywhere near enough. Take for instance Brooklynite Elaine Li, whose portfolio site we stumbled across last night. She makes very cool glass cakes and eerie sculptures that look like underwater creatures. If you want to take a glassblowing class, we recommend One Sixty Glass, in Williamsburg. They seem friendly, and the location is great. The also do retail, for those of you to lazy to blow.

Ever been to Corning? The glass museum is very cool...interesting to kids of all ages, and adults. And, the town is great too...about 5 blocks of wonderful restored old buildings, most of which hold boutique type shops, that sell everything from furniture to artsy stuff to clothes, to knick knacks to more glass. There's some small glass works in Corning, as well as the big glass works, which is the major employer. And, its a gorgeous area, one of those areas you don't mind getting lost in, because the scenery is so wonderful...and not far at all from the Finger Lakes, and a lot of wineries, which have tours. The hotels and bed and breakfasts in the area run from high priced,to pretty affordable.

Ms. Elaine Li rocks! She makes fantastic, interesting, creative artwork in glass.

She makes her work at UrbanGlass in Brooklyn, NY.(www.urbanglass.org).

Her new body of work will be exhibited at UrbanGlass' booth #426 at SOFA New York (www.sofaexpo.com), June 1 through 4, at the Seventh Regiment Armory, NYC. She'll be there, too.
