Camera in the Kitchen: Artisanal

For those who can boldly face the waft of stinky cheeses at Artisanal, Gothamist reminds you that it is officially Fondue Month at the home of blue, brie, and gouda. With a different fondue du jour each day, along with a 3-cheese house specialty, the Artisanal blend, fondues come to your table top meant for either 1-3 (petit, $24) or for 4-6 (grande, $40) along with a basket bread for dipping. Accoutrements such as sliced apples, fingerling potatoes, kielbasa, and dried beef are available to dip a la carte; and wine is available by both the bottle and the glass which is reassuring after confirmation last week that red wine does in fact go well with cheese. For dessert, in keeping with the fondue theme, a decadent chocolate fondue is available and arrives with a plate of mini madeleines, house-made marshmallows, ginger cookies, strawberries, and sliced bananas. At the end of the night, if you're still hankerin' for more cheese, shop the Artisanal cheese store, join the Cheese classes.

Artisanal is located at 2 Park Avenue (32nd St. entrance b/w Park & Madison) and open for lunch, M-F and dinner nightly after 5 p.m. Brunch is available on the weekends. (212) 725-8585.

Oooh boy do I want some fondue now . . .

Keep to one pic you food people. Why do Gothamist food staff always post 3-4 pix per restaurant? It's not like I haven't seen strawberries before?

I ate there once and smelled like cheese all night long. I'm not sure if the smell was in my hair/clothes or if I was emanating it. Good food/gross smell.

oh no! more than one photo! still on a 56k modem?

When it comes to food pr0n, I likes my pictures graphic and numerous. Bring 'em on!!

Some friends of mine recently went to Artisinal, it was actually during restaurant week. the hostess took forevert o seat them even though only a few tables were occupied. She simply acted as if they weren't there for nearly a half hour. When she finally sat them, she sat them extremely close to another couple (again, the restaurant was nearly empty), so both couple's hopes of romantic intimacy were dashed. the OTHER couple actually asked to be moved. When the food came, it turned out that the restaurant week special was a gyp. Nothing special, and small in portion size. I love cheese, and I've always wanted to go to Artisinal, but my pals' experience cured me of that desire.
