All Star Spat Turns Into Murder

2006_02_allstarspat.jpgThe Brooklyn teen who was found with a fatal stab wound in a Crown Heights elevator turns out to have been stabbed by his best friend. And it was all over the NBA All Star Game. Naquan Butts turned himself into the police yesterday, saying that he and Michael Bethune had argued over their All Star Game bets (they were watching the game with friends at Butts's apartment) when, somehow, the "trash talk turned physical" and Butts ended up stabbing Bethune. The AP had a quote from Butts's uncle saying, "Things just got out of hand," while Bethune's family said the fight "may have had something to do with Bethune correctly picking the Eastern Conference All-Stars to win the game." Bethune had worked as a security guard, while starting to attend Interboro Institute.
