Since this is titled wino and that's my speciality, I'd like to point out a real wino doesn't go to these fancy pants places and pay 18 dollars for a glass. I have a liquor store I frequent that sells 3 bottles for 10 dollars, or a double for 6. Decent wine and the selection has included a chilean, french, and italian wine (the italian, i'm not to keen on). That's how a wino rolls, without being a hobo. www.drunkatnyu.com

Don't forget 'ino on Bedford btw. Houston & Downing in the West Village. It's a sister of Inoteca and has a GREAT list of Italian wines as well as fantastic panini and tramezzini.

I second the recommendation for Vintage NY! Finger Lakes wines are my favorite. Some day these folks will figure it out, rodney!

I second the recommendation for Landmarc. I love their extensive collection of half bottles. It gives you so much more room to experiment without spending a fortune.

What about Italian Wine Merchants? They have an amazing selection of both affordable and collectible wines, and are very friendly and willing to help. They also have a room in the back for private parties and tastings...one of my favorite spots in the city.

Landmarc has a nice selection of half bottles. Also the food and atmosphere are great as well. Cru is very pricy, but has a great wine selection by the glass. If you don't want to spend money on the expensive food, you can always sit at the bar.
