Yep, Pillowfight!

2006_02_18_pillowfight.jpg

That pillowfight we mentioned? Yeah, it was real and the pictures are starting to flow onto flickr. Anybody else have pictures (we know you do, there are almost as many cameras in the photos we've seen as pillows), or stories? Put them in the comments.

Update: There are a ton of photos now floating around. This series in particular is pretty crazy, but you can also find more here, here and here (and there are more links in the comments).

And in case pictures don't tell you enough, the inevitable youTube:

We've got some: www.yesbutnobutyes.com. It was great. Hundreds of people with huge smiles on their faces.

a huge thank you from newmindspace for coming to our pillow fight :)

if you could tag your photos "newmindspace" so we can catch them that would be awesome, thanks :)

I just came to shoot, but waded through the crowd for fun; it was a blast! My best shots are up on flickr. Dutifully tagged with "newmindspace." Thanks for putting it on, Kevin and Lori!

That's Perfect! Looked like a lot of Fun.

Hey, Do you suppose the Mayor will insist on a Permit???
;-)

Only put up three so far, but I have many, many more that will be up by Monday at http://www.flickr.com/photos/carpeicthus/

Really great event. I expected there to be 100 photographers and 10 pillow-fighters, but the revellers turned up in force. I waived the "don't hit the photographer" right and got whacked a *lot*, so I may count as both.

My best from today are up on flickr here. I had a camera in one hand with a pillow in the other for a good part of the event. So yeah.. Someone should have warned the general public how bad feathers taste. All in good fun I suppose..

stupid flickr-crap! wanna see what a pure massacre that really was?

PS: We ran into Tod Seelie who we saw last week at NYC Photobloggers 6, organized by Jake. I was really surprised the rest of the usual suspects weren't there.

I put together a little video, which you can see over on YouTube.

I definitely did not go, but am I the only one here who would have HATED that??

the aftermath was disgusting. just like kids--expecting someone else to clean up after them.

I'm with Suzie Q - It definetly does seem all that interesting, other that just a social gathering. Would've disliked it as well.

i have seen so much amazing footage :) thanks everybody! i was wondering if you have seen any media - the times & AP were there

It's sure starting to seem like these events would be a heck of a lot more fun with more real participants and fewer camera-toting voyeurs.

I am utterly sick of people who just show up to take pictures for their blogs. Seriously people, not everything needs to be rigorously photodocumented and to be honest ( you might not have noticed this on the other end of the lens ) a lot of times it really kills the mood.

How about just a quick snap or two that you can look at later to remember the event, and then put the camera away and join in?

milovoo, Some are there to Pillow Fight, Some to Take pictures, and Some to do Both...
Sheesh!

Back on Topic: That You Tube video was great! I liked how people are just standing around and just start up!

I don't get it! Suzie Q: You Rock!

Yesterday was a BLAST! First I took shots with my camera and then I took shots at other people with my pillow! Pics and video on my site stupidfresh.com

Nice job New York!

Ugh. I wonder how many BEDBUGS that little event spread? Happy scratching, folks!

People, I'm all for spontaneity and creativity, but the pillowfight was 1)gross and 2)grossly self-important. The fluff that spewed out of this thing was obnoxious. Participants, YOU ARE LITTERERS. And did you think about where those feathers come from? DEAD BIRDS. Birds' dying so you can eat is vaguely justifiable, but birds' dying so you can have a self-indulgent late-capitalist litter fest? Please channel your future creativity in a less damaging way.

Calm down, people. It was a pillow fight. I went and had a blast, and I am neither a hippie or an overeager NYU freshmen. Yes, there probably should have been some sort of cleanup organized, but I don't see this many complaints or unfounded accusations after flea markets or concerts, or even after Saturday nights in the East Village. Rather than trying to demean or discount the motivations of everyone who took part, look at the pictures- I saw people ranging from 3-60 who were having a great time, and I had a great time smacking them in the head with my clean, cotton-filled pillow.

And yes, birds have died so that pillows can be stuffed. This isn't a new thing.

Always late to the party. . .

I took some photos that ended up on flickr under everyday i live. But you can also see them here:

I guess it's true, not everything I photograph has to be naked or bloody.
