Jakob, thanks for your response but I think you miss my point. I'll try to make myself clearer. I'm not angry. I'm not against people having fun. And nowhere do I say or imply that people should feel guilty about enjoying innocent pleasures.

People were claiming this was not a hipster event. I just pointed out that the pillow fight is overwhelmingly geared toward young people with few responsibilities and to deny this is delusional.

theres going to be a massive turnout today. i'm hearing about this pillowfight from everyone.

so expect hipsters, grannies, electricians and teenagers....'cause its gonna be people who are all looking for a good time.

the only thing i'm concerned about are the cops. The NO Pants Ride 2k6 and all their fussing with Critical Mass stuff makes me think they're the only problem here.

Am I crazy? I seems like people who hate "hipsters" are people who are afraid to have fun.

In my opinion, there isn't enough FUN stuff happening in NYC - it's mostly subdued, self-conscious, alcohol-related nightlight. Finally, something crazy, innocent, and fun comes up, and -- SURPRISE -- some angry weirdo (Mr. Demography) insists that we should feel guilty about it.

Hmmm, why do I think that the cops will be showing up for this event?

I guess they don't count as hipsters either.

Actually I know of two middle aged mothers who will be there. And maybe not a plumber, but an electrician. Oh and not one of them is a hipster.

As a member of the white power elite, I defend my right to flaunt my leisure class status publicly. Bring it, you wussy liberals, and feel the wrath of my superior down pillow and 1200 thread count pillow case!

Okay, maybe not hipster but is there any doubt that the demographics for this will overwhelmingly skew toward single, white, college educated, native English speaking, 20-somethings with lots of time on their hands? Is there any doubt there will not be a single bond trader, middle-aged mother, immigrant restaurant worker, longshoreman, dentist, cab driver, hair dresser, Vietnam veteran, or plumber participating?

There's nothing wrong with an event appealing to a very thin slice of the city (it sounds like fun!), but let's not be in denial that a public pillow fight advertized only narrowly online is anything but a hipster event.

thanks for the big ups :) if you're wondering about hard objects in pillows, consider
1) these troublemakers never show up
2) they realize they are seriously outnumbered

i am looking forward to an awesome pillow fight tomorrow :D
