Also 21 feet is considered deadly range for someone wielding a knife. most normal people can clear 21 feet in a few seconds. It's a shame the cat got hurt in the struggle....

Lunging at a cop with a 12-inch knife is probably one of the stupidest things I've ever heard of. Of course the cop is going to shoot you -- doesn't matter if you're 65 or 25.

That is a really bizarre story. Woman stabs cat because cat poops in hall. Cat owner then stabs woman who stabbed cat. Cop shows up and then shoots and kills cat owner. Anything wrong with this picture? God, how I love this city.

Just to clear up how the cat got stabbed: According to Metro paper, which never gets things wrong, supposedly the neighbor (Padula) stabbed the cat, and then the soon-to-be shot lady got the knife in a struggle, grabbed Padula by the hair, and started stabbing her. Interesting, too, that the fanfair reportedly started at 4.30 in the morning and cops didn't show til 8.30. p.s. -- squeamish readers shouldn't read this -- the cat was stabbed in the eye but had an exit wound in the neck. yikes.

So it's common? A 12 inch bladed kitchen knife, I mean. Not from tip to handle. I dunno, still skeptical. At least the dog was not hurt.

Not unusual. I've got a 12 inch Henkel as part of the knife set we got for Christmas. Makes me NOT want to get my wife P/O'ed...

"12 inch knife" who has that large a knife in their common kitchen? Hey, if the cops killed elenor bumpkins, anyone is fair game. At least the dog was not shot and the cop got home OK. That's all that matters.

Does anyone else find it sad that the police had to resort to opening fire on a 65 year-old woman? I understand that she was probably out of her mind, but don't they have a non-lethal means of subduing a suspect? I guess you shouldn't bring a knife to a gun fight.
