Baseball's Back

2006_02_sspringtrainingmap.jpgSpring is almost here! Pitchers and catchers started reporting to camps in Florida today. In Port St. Lucie the Mets are welcoming new faces Billy Wagner, Carlos Delgado and Paul Lo Duca, as well as several others. In Tampa, the Yankees have several new pitchers, Kyle Farnsworth, Octavio Dotel, Mike Myers and Ron Villone joining their staff.

Spring training will be different this year as the World Baseball Classic will take away many of the top players from their teams for almost three weeks. Team USA recently announced their 30-man roster and while it is still subject to change, it looks like a pretty solid team. Roger Clemens, still undecided about his future plans, will headline the pitching staff with stars such as Derek Jeter, Derek Lee, Chipper Jones and Jason Varitek heading up the offense. The WBC starts March 3rd in Asia with games starting in the Western Hemisphere on March 7th.
