Big Pink Love in DUMBO

2006_2_lovedumbo1.jpg

Our pal Janelle spotted this giant "love" piece made out of ribbon next to the BQE in DUMBO. Anyone have a better shot of it, or know who is behind it? We're hoping it's a loopy Valentine to a hipster girlfriend working in one of the DUMBO buildings.

Hmm..I could be wrong, but the color and style of the lettering looks very similar to "faux" grafitti that was on the outside of a storefront that was under construction on South 7th Ave leaving Chelsea, late Fall 2004. (I don't know why I remember all of this, I have a very selectively strong memory.)

I'd bet that this is some sort of stealth advertising...

  • we did something of a similar scale in toronto - a 1.4 mile long mural made entirely of chalk hearts and the word "love"

Wouldn't Brooklyn hipsters be too "hip" to celebrate this lame, commercialized, Hallmark-driven day known as Valentine's?
