Dog Days Arrive at Madison Square Garden!

2006_02_dogshow.jpgIt's that time of year again - it's the Westminster Kennel Club's 130th Dog Show! The show will be on USA tonight at 8PM, but there will be videos available online at the WKC site after the various breeds have been judged. One of the thousands of dog owners told the Daily News that she was going to get up at 4AM to get her Yorkshire Terrier ready for a 9:15AM judging. There are tons of things for dogs to do at Madison Square Garden and the vicinity - the Yahoo photos show dogs on treadmills and enjoying spa treatment, just like this little pug at right.

WKC show information tells us that general admission tickets are being sold at MSG - any word on how easy it is to get them? And speaking of spa treatments for animals, the Post follows up the story about the crimefighting kitty cat by treating Fred the cat and Burt the terrier to a spa day.

After failing to score tickets today to MSG -thanks to those dreadful, money-hungry scalpers -I ended up taking a long, snowy walk about town to see what else was happening. And you wouldn't beleive what joy I found...

Ever heard of a STEPHEN HUNECK? Well he's like your pet's fave godfather! And he's currently got an exhibition of his dog-inspired artwork, including books, woodcut prints, rugs, furniture and lots more in a lovely midtown gallery I stumbled into.

If you have the time to, you should, matter of fact since Mr. Huneck is actually making a rare appearance himself this Wednesday evening ( the last day of his show) for a book signing, you must make the time to go.

It's happening at a place aclled Felissimo Design House. Its located on 56th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. You can visit the exhibition on their upper floor during the day, but you'll have to RSVP if you wish to attend Wednesday evening.

They even have a raffle drawing that evening which includes some of Huneck's artwork and other dog/love related items!

You can visit their website felissimo dot com for more info or call this number 212.956.4438 ext 145

    See you there. Woof!

Ooh, that's an interesting fact, Papercutninja. I guess they don't need to melt the ice for the elephants when the circus comes to town.

If i remember correctly, this is one of the two events that they actually melt the Ranger ice for. Apparently the dogs can sense the ice and some get a little crazy.

The other event is tennis (US Open?) because the ambient cold from the floor makes the tennis balls bounce weird.

I just came from there (I work nearbye) it shouldn't be tought to get a ticket. Scalpers are all over, but you could probably get one for free. As you enter they just scan your ticket to make sure it's valid, but they don't take it from you. When people leave "the day session" they are free to hand it off to someone else, if they don't plan on returning. I saw a couple people just asking for tkts as people left.

True - the dog days have been there for a while.

I just took the "What Dog Are You Like?" quiz on the USA Network page and apparently I'm like a golden retriever, which is good to know, though I'd been hoping to be like a chow chow.
