You know, I have received emails from city government workers, but I assume they'd claim it was to find out about what the public is saying about them. Maybe the city is looking to see if there'd be public support for a panda bear bid.

I used to work for the city (there's already restricted internet access) and the vast majority of my colleagues had no real jobs or duties and did indeed play solitaire all day -- it would be no bad thing to fire about 2/3 of the city workforce since so few of them do work of any kind.

I once asked the woman who sat behind me what her job was when not doing her nails or chatting on the phone (computer solitaire would have been far beyond her skills) and she just yelled, 'I don't need to tell you my job, I'm union.' Funny, so was I -- however, I got so bored and fed up with working there I quit. And it doesn't matter if you sue the city -- you'll never see a dime because so many of their lawyers are too lazy to bother filing anything on time and/or to show up to court, so your case will drag on and on for years.

I should really write a tell-all memoir.

I'm still waiting for some genius to build an app that skins AIM to look like a Word or Excel document. So necessary.

I wonder what Bloomberg would've done if he saw someone reading "Gothamist" during work!

I'm sure it doesn't matter if this was a legitimate firing or not. This has lawsuit written all over it.
