Atlantic Yards on Google Earth

2006_2_atlanticyardsge.jpg

Ooooh! If you enjoyed Saturday's post about Eyebeam's OGLE rendering, check out this 3D Atlantic Yards placemark for Google Earth. InvisibleMan built it using the information contained in the Atlantic Yards environmental impact statement. Once you download the program and install the placemark, you can move around the Atlantic Yards development in three dimensions-- it really gives you a sense of size and scale of the development. [Suggestion: InvisibleMan, hook up with Fruminator at Eyebeam and print out a 3D rendering of these buildings!]

I remember reading how the guy who built the Williamsburg Savings Bank Building made it so tall because he was speculating that the skyscraper boom would make it's way through Brooklyn and he wanted to be ahead of the game. I wonder if he's still alive to see that he was right after all.

wow, this map is just making me realize that they're blocking my direct route up 5th avenue to target. It's the only easy way to get there from that side of Atlantic. Down with this!

dude, there is going to be an arena on top of your route on fifth avenue if Ratner has his way.

Tip: check the Buildings checkbox (while viewing this in Google Earth) to get 3D models of the surrounding buildings.
