Sit Down Kobe and Wilt, Epiphanny is the Tops

2006_02_sepiphanny.jpgKobe Bryant dropped 81 on the Raptors less than a week ago and 40 on the Knicks on Tuesday, but last night Epiphanny Prince almost topped his total for the two games combined. The senior at Murray Bergtraum scored 113 points in a 137-32 win over Brandeis yesterday. The point total is a record for a girls high school game, besting Cheryl Miller's (that's Reggie's sister) of 105 from 1982. Prince, who will be attending Rutgers next year, had a previous best of 55 points in the 8th grade.

Looking at the final score, Gothamist can't help but wonder if Prince needed to play the whole game with the lead that her team had. Her coach, Ed Grezinsky said, "When I was told she had 58 points at the half, I thought she had a chance to do something special." Prince's dominating performance certainly was special - she made 54 of 60 shots - and had 38 points in the first quarter. When asked about the game, Prince said, "After I scored 29 points in the first quarter, I didn't think much of it. After I had 58 points at the half, and especially after having in the 80s after the third quarter, I just decided to go for it."

Sportsmanship be dammed, records are where it's at.

    Just so you know, 81 + 40 = 121 > 113

Ahem, but can I just say this: You go, girl. And James Frey will die this Thursday in a train accident. A real train accident. But you didn't hear it from me.

  • when the girl makes 54 of 60 shots, i'm not really sure you can call that being selfish, she was shooting 90%!

  • mike

am I the only one who's calling her Ep-I-Fanny, because of the two n's in her name?

  • i didn't link to it, but the opposing team's coach told the post that she blames epiphanny's coach.

  • Bob Loblaw

Call me from the old school, but this is just ridiculous and selfish behavior both on the player and the coach who allowed it to happen.

Maybe its okay for her to score all the points if the final score was 137-134, but this is just poor sportsmanship illustrated to the maximum here.
