Lesbo Sluts Run Wild at Stuyvesant High!

2006_1_stuylesbo1.jpg

Forget Henrietta Hudson-- the new lesbian hotspot is the second floor of Stuyvesant High School during 10th period (after 3pm.) Of course, that's only if you believe the slightly tittilating cover article in this week's New York Magazine:

Alair is headed for the section of the second-floor hallway where her friends gather every day during their free tenth period for the “cuddle puddle,” as she calls it. There are girls petting girls and girls petting guys and guys petting guys. She dives into the undulating heap of backpacks and blue jeans and emerges between her two best friends, Jane and Elle, whose names have been changed at their request. They are all 16, juniors at Stuyvesant. Alair slips into Jane’s lap, and Elle reclines next to them, watching, cat-eyed. All three have hooked up with each other. All three have hooked up with boys—sometimes the same boys. But it’s not that they’re gay or bisexual, not exactly. Not always.

We're betting that Principal Teitel is going to be shutting down the cuddle puddle effective immediately-- can any of our little Stuyvesant spies tell us what's going on? And for the record, despite the article's contention that 80% of the Stuyvesant female population is engaging in sapphic love, during the five years we spent at Stuyvesant High School, we never once witnessed any lesbian encounters. So please send in some pictures! [Related: NYMag has a brand SPANKING new website-- check it out.]

UPDATE: best stuy-related email of the day, from Jonah: "hey, f.y.i., back in the mid-1990s, when i was hanging out at what was then called BiGLYNY, the youth group at the gay community center, probably half the kids in the group went to stuyvesant. one of my friends snuck me into the building one day and i recognized what seemed like ninety percent of the students--gay, gay, gay, gay, gay. i always thought of stuy as more gay than your average high school, certainly gayer than the straight-laced private school i went to. now you know. xoxo"

This isn't all that surprising. Consideing all the nooks and crannies in school buildings. There were - and probably still are - quite a few quiet low or no traffic locations and corners where students engaged in risqué behavior at Bk Tech. A corner here, a stairwell there, throw in an occasional unsecured room and it happens.

Calling them sluts is more than a little offensive. It doesn't make them sluts because/if they are having and enjoying sex. And the photoshop job of two girls being "lesbo sluts" is pretty tasteless. The article seems focused not on reporting, but on attracting readers by using negative archetypes of girls who enjoy sex and by making up and exaggerating the story.

  • At least with girl X girl or boy X boy puddles no one is getting pregnant! Just hope they are practicing safe sex. Otherwise I personally see no harm in it. With the boy X Girl sex going on, they need to wrap that Waskell or be told how to wrap it! Sex education is paramount to our teens out there. Otherwise teen pregnancy and abortions will increase.

Leave the yung pussy munchers alone ! Their practicing a craft for the future .

  • This was 5 years ago...the only one who's bothering this story now is you (and me, replying to you)

  • Stiff01

Who's bothering it ? I just this for the first time .

This is absolutely absurd. There is no sort of this sexual liberance within the Stuyvesant community and i would happen to know because i am a student there.

The reporter who wrote this defamation was a complete disgrace to the media. She is very hated throughout Stuy because of the lies she has written.

  • guest

    don't know who that is

maybe it was all nonexistant back in 2006 but i doubt that

    drugs are there

    sex is there

    alcohol is CERTAINLY there

cuddle puddle may not have existed to that extent

but the amount of sex in stuy in general certain does

    sophomore there now

    and yes i would know

  • Well, it's good to see that one high school tradition is still thriving: double-spacing to make essays seem longer. NY Magazine should do a story on that-- at least it's true.

(OK, I now realize this is actually Gothamist's style sheets, oh well.)

  • alexq

    there is no cuddle puddle

i happen to know those in supposed puddle and it just doesnt exist

  • tom9d

"There is no cuddle puddle" might be my favorite thing ever written in a Gothamist comment. It's just a great sentence.

  • basically,

    teitel is a douche,

    the article is ridiculous,

just like the post article about the drugs.

    just like the gambling article

just like the ipod news piece.

    thats my word

    by the way

teitel is a power abusing douche who tries too hard to make his shittty school seem good,

    i go there

    i kno

they stay tryin to kick me out

  • l3iodeez

I graduated Stuy in 02, and this post is right on. These kind of ginned up stories about "elite" schools were de rigueur in my day.

Sure theres plenty of sex and drugs but its no different now than its ever been. Man I can't think of much that DIDN'T go on in the rear stairway by the river.

Oh and yes, Tietel was a giant autocratic douche when I was at Stuy and he was a physics teacher. I am utterly amazed that he is a giant autocratic douche as Principal.

Rukshan, they can't kick you out. They will tell you they can, but really there ain't shit they can do. (Unless things have changed)

  • InTheArticle

The article was a rediculous sham. The reporter talked about social activism and awareness. She took hours of notes on our ideas both politically and socially. And what did she do???? She published trash and splashed my name, and the names of my friends all over it. There are, unfortunitly no lesbo sluts running wild, and the name "cuddle puddle" was something the reporter pulled out of thin air. It is in fact a group of kids hanging out in a hallway, doing all the normal things that kids who hang out do...there is no excessive hooking up, no crazy sex, and a very small amount of "offensive lesbian activity", if any.

Let this be a warning to everyone, DON'T TALK TO REPORTERS, NO MATTER HOW NICE THEY ACT...THEY WILL SCREW YOU OVER TO SELL.

  • Becca

The article is misquoted and misinformed. 90% of those quotes were taken out of context, the author did a horrible job of "hiding identities" and the whole article gave off "stuyvesant is being turned into a multisexual brothel by teenage sexual deviants!!!" which wasn't the intention of those who were interviewed, at all. Anyone who read more than 3 pages of the article should be able to see that the whole thing seems ridiculous.... which it IS.

On a side note, Teitel hasn't made attempt to break up the group, mostly because they ARENT DOING ANYTHING WRONG. As should be obvious, the article is a huge exaggeration, it's barely more than a bunch of kinda hanging out, comfortable with each other.

and, i hate to nitpick (or do i?), but.. "during the five years we spent at Stuyvesant High School, we never once witnessed any lesbian encounters." ... this was definitely said by a baseball player... :) (yes, i was there at the same time ;)

    ---

I was there too and there was lots of lesbian and gay action all over the place. I completely agree that those who wanted to see it had ample opportunities.

  • i think it's something like what samuel delany said in .. i think the madman... "there are baseball players, and there are cocksuckers.. and if you're a baseball player, you won't be noticing the cocksuckers".

this was basically stating that there are people doing all SORTS of things ALL over the place, but if you're not looking for it, you won't notice it. and i'm sure this was true at stuy 10 years ago, and probably it's true now. i bet if you asked a random current student "do you know about the cuddle puddle?", there's a good chance you'd get a no.

i think the message for openness and "post-gayness" that the article is trying to communicate isn't a bad one, but i'm not sure it's really reporting on anything too exceptional here.

Their parents must be so proud!

  • Mr. Jersey

NYMag is so pathetic. This is just yet another one of their "lets interview my friend's bored teenage daughter and print whatever she says as FACT!"

NYMag: so, anything naughty at your school

Bored Teen: sure, hot cuddling action happening everywhere

    NYMag: really?? (scribble) do tell!

Bored Teen: (trying not to laught) oh sure, we all do it

    NyMag: (salivating) yes, yes???

    ...and so on.

  • JESUS CHRIST

Don't get fooled guys. You guys always fantasize of Jessica Alba type lesbos but it's more like rosie o'donell bull dykes that make out. The dream is dead!
