CELEBRATION: There's nothing like flowers to cheer you up in the dreary month of January. The Museum of Chinese in the Americas presents Arts in Full Bloom at 3rd Annual Lunar New Year Flower Market. The Flower Market reinvents tradition by incorporating performers and artists as the colors and fragrances of auspicious plants and blossoms linger in the air and atmosphere. The flowers are widely used decoratively as symbols of prosperity, fortune and abundance.

ENTERTAINMENT: We see this as falling under the entertainment category, more so than the music category. Yes, it's the Super Bowl of Heavy Metal, featuring Hair Supply! The lineup is sure to bring the house down, luckily your hair will stay up - as we're sure there will be plenty of hairspray in supply. Har har.

SHOP: Come to SHOP DUMBO this weekend and, you know, shop. Also watch a show, take a walk in the park, eat some of the world's best chocolate or stroll through fabulous art galleries. It's going to be nice and sunny out (with a 55% chance of maple syrup smell), so you've got no excuses!
Saturday // 12 to 7pm // Start at 111 Front St or 68 Jay St // Free
MUSIC: Producer David Breskin has commissioned jazz guitarist Bill Frisell to create music based on Richter 858, a series of abstract paintings by German artist Gerhard Richter. The cd, which comes with the book, also includes a multimedia slideshow of the paintings. You, however, can hear the music from it, live and this weekend! Frisell formed the 858 Quartet with string players which will be joined by avant-garde trumpeter Ron Miles and tenor Greg Tardy. Story on the collaboration at NPR [via Flavorpill].
Sunday // 8:30pm // Zankel Hall [881 7th Ave] // $30-35
