Amazing Cakes Straight Out of the Upper West Side

2006_1_animalcake1.jpg

As you may recall, we've recently become interested in the noble tradition of New York City cake decoration. After much clicking around, we've come across a towering god of the cake-decorating arts: Elisa Strauss of W87th Street's Confetti Cakes. Check out her specialty cakes section-- it's filled with an amazing set of cake sculpture, including these animals, handbags, and miscelleaneous oddness.

Elisa also does classes, but it seems unlikely you're going to approach her level of skill. That's something that you've got to be born with!

She's been on FoodTV at least twice in cake decorating competitions as well.

She lost in the first one (it was her first competition). I didn't watch till the end of the second one.

They rerun competitions all the time though (at least it seems that way) if anyone wants to see her in action.
