No Clue Why SoHo Commercial Fire Started

The Fire Department is still investigating the cause of Saturday night's fire at 575 Broadway, better known as the building that housed the Prada and American Eagle stores on the northwest corner of Prince. Also in the building: Interview magazine, Bobbi Brown cosmetics, the Lure Fishbar, plus Antiques and Art in America magazines. The fire started on a low floor, then spread through air ducts to the other floors. According to amNew York, officials said that "High winds and 20-foot-high ceilings made battling the fire especially challenging." The FDNY also said most of the interior would have to be replaced, but they really aren't sure what caused the fire, though it does not seem suspcious. Too bad Rem Koolhaas didn't design firefighting mannequins for the Prada store. The NY Times wrote that the American Eagle lost most of its inventory, and Verbose Coma reported that Prada had received a $5 million shipment last week.

One reader broke out how much the building could be worth - over $100 million.
