I would love to see number of grooms who initially pursued the bride, number of brides who initially pursued the groom, and number where both were equally interested in the other early on. This information is sometimes given in the copy.

I suspect there will be a big skew toward grooms pursuing brides, just as there is a big skew toward older grooms.

How does gothamist determine # of weddings ended in divorce? Is it based on past weddings that gothamist has reported?

HuntGrunt, I would love that too, but when I put these numbers together I try to only list information that is included in every wedding announcement and unfortunately who pursued who only appears in every other one (or so).

Which takes us to Cecillia's question. The Weddings pages are notorious as being the most fact checked part of the paper. And one item that they make sure to add to the bottom of every announcement is how the bride and grooms previous marriages ended (seriously, if the info exists they always do it). It'd be impossible for us to base it on our own stats, since I put all of the info anonymously into a database.

Any other questions?

This is fantastic! I would also love to see the number of advance degrees because it seems like the number of master's degrees or Ph.D.'s always EXCEEDS the number of people getting married.

I'd like, also, to see the percentage of those who are in the same profession as their parents (read: father). "Mr. Smith is an associate at Davis Polk...his father is a retired partner from Debevoise and Plimpton..."

advance degrees, huh? yeah, gimmie a week or two to make settle on how to input that information, but i think i can def do that you sg.

and as for family professions, samantha, i'll try to make sure to continue to point those ones out when i notice them.
