Question: Who and What Advertises Where?

2006_01_22_ads.jpgHere's the kind of project we wish we'd thought of. Alexis Lloyd, a student at Parsons, put together a website called Adscape as part of her MFA in Design. She went to three neighborhoods (East Harlem, SoHo and the Upper East Side) and in a five block section recorded every bit of advertising she could spot (beyond storefront signs). She then divided all of the ads she photographed by subject and put them all together online.

For instance in Harlem there were no ads for education versus 7 in SoHo and 3 on the Upper East Side. She saw 15 ads for music and movies in Harlem, 8 in SoHo and none on the Upper East.

And if that's not enough for you, Gothamist on advertecture.
