Local Hockey Recap

2005_10_snhllogo.jpgThe Islanders rebounded from their worst loss of the season to beat Chicago 2-1 in overtime last night. Rick DiPietro who had been pulled in the second period of Saturday’s game made 34 saves, several of them spectacular to keep New York in the game. Oleg Kvasha took advantage of a rebound to stuff home the game winner.

Meanwhile the Devils kept up their winning ways, beating St. Louis 5-3. The win was the seventh straight for New Jersey and puts them into the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference.

Martin Brodeur made 26 saves while passing Tony Esposito for fifth place on the NHL wins list. Brian Gionta continued his great season by scoring the first two goals of the game. Gionta now has 49 points in 46 games to lead New Jersey in scoring.

Why, God, do the Rangers continue to put Weekes in goal?

With our porous defense, I'd much rather Weekes' save percentage take a dip than Lunqvist's. Sather and Co. are steering this team straight into the crapper.
