I wasn't proclaiming greatness; I was just saying that the only things that taste good at Starbucks are "drinks" that are actually desserts, like Frappuccinos. Haagen Dazs at least tastes good.

Who cares who owns Haagen Dazs? Do you make your own ice cream? I am happy to have amused you. Maybe one day I will be righteous as well.

Ok, not fake ice cream. Sorry. Fake company. Haagen Dazs is basically ice cream for the masses. It's a step up from Klondike and in fact, it's owned by Nestle right now. I just find it amusing that you are so quick to shoot down Starbucks while proclaiming the greatness of something that's hardly any better.

starbucks lattes are delicious, but dunkin donuts coffees are the best caffeine bang for your buck.

deli coffees ARE cheap, but usually don't taste as good. starbucks lattes and coffees are usually under four dollars. I get them every once in while, as they may taste good but unless i get an extra espresso shot, they don't wake me up.
then again, i've been drinking coffee since i was 2 (byproduct of growing up colombian). nothing works at this point.

Fake ice cream? Haagen Dazs vanilla has four ingredients. Cream, milk, sugar, vanilla.

I can't believe someone just said Haagen Dazs is better than Starbucks. That's a good one. Fake ice cream or overpriced coffee? I think I'll take neither.

Starbucks coffee tastes burnt. They start off with good beans, but then they burn them in the roasting process or something. Go ahead. Get a regular cup of coffee at Starbucks. Without all the lathered foam and syrup to mask the taste, you'll find you've got one hell of a nasty tasting cup of coffee. It's not "strong;" it's burnt. (I used quotation marks to denote what I assume the Starbucks folks would say if you called the horrific taste of their coffee to their attention.)

If you want a $5 milkshake, of course, then get a Frappuccino, although I think you'd get more bang for your buck at Haagen Dazs.

Feh!
Why is Starbucks evil?
They seem to be everywhere and in general chain places are bad, as they bring utter sameness to places. Do you really like the concept that you can get the same overpriced food and beverages in stores from Brooklyn to Anchorage and all the points in between?
God forbid that you have local coffee houses that meet local tastes and have local character, since some crappy chain from Seattle is around!

It's not a product people like as much as it's a product people feel they need. Caffeine is a highly addictive yet socially acceptable drug which causes all sorts of problems. Starbucks is literally a drug dealer, and simply goes where there is a demand for it. Yuppies are all over Starbucks like flies to shit, as well as sleeping pills to take off the edge off from all that coffee they're drinking. Then they get emotional problems and anxiety attacks, and load themselves up with Zoloft and Xanax to get through their day of going to Starbucks at every office break. The whole city is full of drug addicts. It's disgusting.

while yes, captainlatte, if you search out the gothamist comments you will find that infact toby is a dork (sorry tobe-meister). however, he is correct on this one. starbucks is evil. you may like it, nay you may even love it, that's your choice and whatever choice you made i'm certain is the best one for you. but that doesn't negate the simple truth: you love big brother.

want proof? look at the map above.

now that we've cleared that up, go back and drink your starbucks beverage. it'll make you feel better. afterall, ignorance is strength.

Toby, you're a dork. You don't have to pay $5 for coffee at Starbucks, you can pay a lot less if you want something simple. Just like a crappy buttered roll at the deli would be $1, but a nice bagel with a good shmear would be $4. Duh. Both are breakfast, but one's a heck of a lot tastier.

And why is Starbucks evil? Because they have a product that people like? Because they make a profit? Maybe it's the sinister non-food items they sell, like the mugs, shot glasses, or cute stuffed bears? Please do let us know.

I'm no Starbuck's drinker either, but they do treat their employees well: health benifits, (even for part-time), stock options, higher pay, etc.

Starbucks is evil.
I am glad I am not a coffee drinker, and if I was I don't see how spending $5.00 for a cup of coffee makes sense. You can get coffee in a deli for much less. Then again I never have set foot in a Starbucks and don't plan to ever.

You're not equally close to every single Starbucks. That doesn't make any sense.

The point is that the pull of Starbucks gravity is greatest at that point on 39th Street. It's confusing physics, but your initial statement doesn't make any logical sense.
