The mother of nixalis santiago is part to blame for what happend to nixmary brown. She was a very abusive mother and very unsanitary in her upkeeping of her home. nixalis has three brother and thay are drug addicts and thives, And are in and out of jail most of the time. I know the family for about 30 years so I'm not making this up. And I think nixalis is not all to blame for what happend cause of her upbringing. nixalis father was also a drug addict and left when the children were very little. so thay come from a what ever you might call it family. I think that you all should take a good look at your society and why such people come from it. American society is hedonistic, evil, sick, materialistic, and child-hating, which enables such monsters to do their deeds. It is a pity that no teachers from Nixzmary's school could have just taken her home, but they would have most likely been prosecuted for who knows what, while her sick mother's sicko "boyfriend" was allowed to continue his torture of a little girl. I don't think that it matters how many men her mother had, whether she was illegal or not, or how much money her family had -- every child deserves protection from such abuse. All of this comes down to the fact that in your sick society only families with money count. Nixzmary's family were just poor immigrants but in another school in another part of the USA a 6-year old boy was suspended from school for "sexual harrassment" because he snapped the waistband of some girl he said poked him first. This little kid doesn't even know what he did wrong, but the families in his school district have money so the administrators must be very PC in fear of offending anyone, but little girls that come from poor families you can do what you want with it seems. Things in your X-tian ociety haven't changed much since the times of Oliver Twist. I am very, very, very, very thankful that I do not live in your sick country and that I live in a society that loves and protects our children.

I have never in my life been so affected by a story as Nixzmary's. It has left me disturbed, and upset. It has been so hard to go to sleep at night, knowing that there are crazy, fucked up individuals in this world that would treat kids this way. I may not have known her, but her story, her pain, is so shocking, that it shook my soul so deeply, that I have not been right with my own existence anymore. It makes you stop and wonder how to absorb this sad tragedy, and live with yourself. I was so compelled to go see her at her 2nd wake down in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, and had paid a visit to her home in Brooklyn of her vigil outside. Tears always come to my eyes, as I wonder every waking moment of my life, what more could we as society had done. How did we let this happen. I do not accept all those who say, oh, it's nothing we can do about it, it's going to happen again, who cares. There will always be another neglected child out there in this world. That is unacceptable. I am a native New Yorker, born in the Bronx, raised in Manhattan. I had been a member of the NYC Guardian Angels, and I always believed in helping and protecting people. It will take more than a helping hand like myself to save others. I will not ever give up on trying to reach out to others who need help, and I will make it my mission in life to see that something more can be done about it. Just the simple fact that I am writing this, and someone else will read it, should be sufficient to let others knows that there are people who care about this. I also have family members who are just as young as Nixzmary. I am an uncle to 10 nephews and nieces. I would adopt Nixzmary as my 11th child in my heart, in spirit. I would've loved her as if she were one of my own. In my home, she would've been able to eat all the yogurt she wanted, and fed just as well. I was also in the Military, and to me I know the Stepfather is seen by the Military as a disgrace for his service. He probably was discharged with other than a General or Honorable Discharge. This means he would have had a hard time getting a good job on the outside, as his tainted record in the Military would follow him anywhere he goes in civilian life. Nixzmary, may your soul rest in peace. You will never be forgotten, as I can tell by all the people who have written to this post above. Even after all is said and done, I will still remember your memory, forever and more. I will place a framed picture of you in my house along with my other family pictures, as one of my own. I will visit you at the cemetery, and bring you flowers. You did not deserve what has happened to you. I will always speak of your name, and will carry on the fight to see that your story, your life, will never be forgotten. You were one of us. A human being.

I have read so many comments, many good, and some very bad and it's unfortunate that anyone would say anything negative about an innocent child. Her name has nothing to do with the abuse that poor girl endured during her short life. No matter what her race, how many kids her mother had, who her real father was, etc., she didn't deserve any abuse what so ever. Why did the school not take this child aside and talk to her about the suspected abuse. The called cps a number of times? I think that every school should talk to kids about un normal home situations. This girl obviously didnt know any better to tell anyone and niether did her siblings. probley because this was all they knew, abuse was thier life ,your surroundings in your home is all you know. Lets face it every child is born innocent untill they are in the hands of someone who takes that away. These teachers are with our children 7 hours a day 245 days a year they are a great influence on how our children grow and mature. This seems to happen every few years or so... A child is murdered, brutally. The media is all over it. Child protection agency employees are fired and we are promised that things will change. Then the sensationalism dies down and nothing changes and a few years later another baby is murdered by another abusive piece of shit. Looks like things will never change. People will still give birth to too many children who are not cared for...Abused children will fall thru the cracks...some will be killed. Starting to think the only cure is to pull the child out of the home when there is even a hint of abuse no matter how much of a fuss the parent makes. Nixmary Brown suffered the ultimate sacrifice that should inspire us to be kind to our children for they are being shaped to become the adults that can change the future or otherwise repeat disfunctional behavior. The priority here should not be to celebritise the murderers but to campaign on protecting our children, supporting orginizations for children of abuse, and creating opportunities for children that instills positive influence. Nixmary's life was sacrificed not for her killers but for our children who should have the spotlight and hopefully be rescued from torture. What better way to honor her.
