Gothamist heads to the Bronx for a few things, Yankees games, trips to the zoo and dinners on Arthur Avenue, but a lot people are now heading there to live. With prices in the city becoming ever less affordable, the South Bronx may be the last bastion of reasonable value.
There are certainly many beautiful buildings in the Bronx as anyone who has ever been down the Grand Concourse can tell you, but so much of the character of the area was bulldozed in the 1960’s and 70’s in the name of urban renewal and the Cross Bronx Expressway. Still, today’s New York Times details some areas that are bringing people over the Harlem River.
The people who are moving there describe themselves as pioneers and have a warning for anyone who is interested in trying out the Bronx.
"As pioneers, you shouldn't expect the same thing as when you move into a well-developed area. You're not going to find a good restaurant. If that's what you're looking for, you won't want to be a pioneer."
There aren’t any Starbucks either, so you will have to do without your caffé latte.
However, you do have easy access to Manhattan, either by a car, which you could now park since most houses have driveways; or by subway with the express getting you to Grand Central in 20 minutes.
So, if you are sick of imagining how to fit all of your worldly possessions into 600 square feet, maybe it is time to look north and consider the South Bronx.

if value equates to the worst air quality in the city, then lets start choking! woo!
I am Robert Moses. I can do whatever I want because I am Robert Moses. I want the Cross Bronx Expressway to run this way and I being Robert Moses do not care if there are viable neighborhoods in the way. I Robert Moses, think that my line on the map is more important, because it means that the rich white suburbanites can drive their cars faster into Manhattan. It isn't like I, Robert Moses, will make the Bronx a dangerous place filled with arsonists by 1980. No, I Robert Moses, feel that my line on the map is important and I will not be defeated!
noooooo stay away!
