Winter Makes an Appearance

AT THIS TIME...THE INTRICATE PROCESSES THAT MAY OR MAY NOT DEVELOP CANNOT BE FORECASTED WITH MUCH CONFIDENCE AT THIS TIME. HOWEVER...THERE APPEARS THAT BY THE TIME ANY SNOW ENDS SUNDAY MORNING...A LIGHT ACCUMULATION COULD OCCUR...ALONG WITH ROAD ICING.

The Weather Service forecaster looks a bit exasperated this morning don't you think? The storm system that is moving in from the northwest is complex and forecasters still have very little confidence how it will play out. The weather it will bring can be expressed by one simple word: Yuck. Or, as Gothamist is likely to mutter tomorrow, any of several words that rhyme with yuck.

Dense fog may hang on through the day. If it does we can kiss the mid-50s good-bye. If it clears it will warm up nicely. The rain begins tonight. A thundershower can't be ruled out. More rain and enough wind to make your umbrella is useless wil be tomorrow's weather highlight. As the storm passes by tomorrow evening temperatures will begin to plummet. It'll be much colder when you leave the movie theater than when you entered. The rain will likely turn to an inch or two of snow. Puddles will turn to ice. Sunday will struggle to get above freezing and the wind chill will make it feel like it's in the teens.

Unlike last January, which was warm for two weeks before becoming frigid for the rest of the month, this cold spell will only last a couple of days. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day will be the nicest day of the holiday weekend by far. The wind will have died down, the sun will be out and our high temperature will be around 40.
