Working Overtime

2006_01_sstpehon.jpgIt almost got away from them last night. After building an 18-point first-half lead, the Knicks needed overtime to finally subdue the Mavericks 117-115. Stephon Marbury continued his resurgence with 28 points while Jamal Crawford added 25. The win is the fifth straight for New York and marks their longest winning streak in two years.

Unlike their previous four wins, this one was not marked by a solid defensive effort. Dallas shot 53% from the field while New York only shot 42%. What kept the Knicks in the game was their effort on the boards and their foul shooting. They outrebounded Dallas 54-37 including 28 offensive rebounds and made 31 of 33 from the line.

The Knicks now have a chance to put together a long winning streak. Their next four opponents are all under .500 and with the way the Knicks are playing, winning three out of four isn’t too much to ask.

Haters? No comments? Not for nothing, but the Knicks are two games out of the eighth spot in the playoffs. Steph IS the best PG in basketball right now...as he goes, so do the Knicks.

Very clever: Stepoff. See, what you did there was take the end of his name "on" and replace it with the EXACT OPPOSITE (off). How did you come up with this, this genius? I suggest Gothamist file your comment under "hilarious".

Who would you propose Isiah trade Crawford and Marbury for? How about Pete Maravich? Good idea to trade two key players on a 5 game winning streak. I'd suggest commenting on Centrico's Braised Short Ribs...you don't know nothing about basketball.

First off this little streak is nothing but that - a streak; just like a streak of s**t in your draws. marbury is an excellent pg, and a headcase. this team is going NOWHERE.

They will continue to suck and make bad trades and feed all the egos as long as incompetents like the dolans own them. too bad, nyc deserves much better.

Yes, you make a great case for NYC deserving better. Your comments are well-thought out and compelling. I agree they should trade those guys for your asterisks. We'll look forward to you re-joining the bandwagon when the Knicks make the playoffs...'cause you're only a fan when they win, right? Right. Maybe you should comment on the Weather Channel guy...he seems to be more your speed, Oscar.

Straight up, Gramercy-style. Yo.
