k,amsci,BYC: THHS class of 98 here! THHS has propelled from being strictly a humanities school to a very well rounded school. You're right to say that most New Yorkers don't know about Townsend Harris... it just seems that "brand-naming" education exists, even on the high school level. I'm in the process of interviewing some of the Intel Science candidates for admission to Columbia. I'll definitely be looking for the same well-roundedness.

Townsend Harris is the most engaging school in NYC. Stuy is filled with slackers and drugies as my friends who attend put it. Last I checked the Times, Townsend Harris is the #1 school in NYC. So being a junior there, I would like to state that the majority of adults do not use proper grammatical english and believe "I says to him" is a proper sentence.

Actually, the Siemens Westinghouse Competition is another prestigious high school science competition--based soley on the research that the student submit--so the Stuy student was the winner of that in 2003. This year's Siemens finals were held at NYU this past December (http://www.siemens-foundation.org/).

K: It's my alma mater too (class o' 97). The majority of people I've met -- native NYers included -- have never heard of THHS.

Maybe it's because it was only re-established as a H.S. in the early 80's? *shrug* I have mixed feelings about the place, but I got a hell of an education there and it's definitely on par with its sister specialized schools.

There's a listing for Flushing, so maybe Queens high schools are listed by neighborhood?

Btw, Siemens Westinghouse != Intel STS.

Intel STS = Old Westinghouse. So Stuy hasn't one it since the 80s I believe.
