New York/New York

2006_01_ssykora.jpgPeter Sykora was openly campaigning to join the Rangers. He had watched their early-season success and he wanted to get out of Anaheim. His wish was granted Sunday and he immediately made his presence felt in the Rangers 4-2 victory over Calgary. Sykora scored a goal, had an assist and manned the point on the Rangers’ power play unit. The win puts the Rangers five points out of first place with about half the season remaining.

Things are not as rosy on Long Island. The Islanders are 2-8 over their last ten and lost againTuesday night 2-1 to Nashville. Before the game, the team announced that they had traded Janne Niinimaa to Dallas. The trade is probably the first move in what will likely be a housecleaning on Long Island. Coach Steve Sterling is probably on his way out but the big question is if GM Mike Milbury might finally have to answer for creating this mess in the first place.
