We loved that show "Ed", we really did. Did you know that the town in it, Stuckeyville, is Nyack, NY? Anyway, we were quite happy to see Tom Cavanagh (Ed, himself) is back on the tube, this time in the form of Tom Farrell in a show called Love Monkey.
The reasons we're interested in this show are threefold. First, because we love Tom Cavanagh. Second, we'd like to see if CBS can pull off a good series. And third, because we may actually be able to relate to a NY character on a tv show, for once (a music lover who may actually take the subway!) Farrell is a 30-something record executive in NYC who spends his time going to shows and trying to find love on this island. Shots from the preview we saw included him walking out of CBGB's, which begs the question: will there be musical performances by unknown, hip bands (like in the OC)? We're sure there eventually will be. And will Tom Farrell be reading blogs to get hot new band tips? Only time will tell.
Related: This piece of reportage was in Gawker Stalker yesterday:
"Tom Cavanaugh et al were filming in my apartment building foyer this morning. Seems that they’ve taken over parts of Lafayette (mainly my apt. building stoop) to film Love Monkey. My dog’s walk was completely disturbed, but I must admit, the actor did open the door for me at 8:15 am. What a gentleman."
The new show is based on the best-selling book by Kyle Smith (which we wrote about last year).
UPDATE: this just in our inbox from Jonny Kaps. New York band "Eugene will be performing on CBS's Love Monkey Tuesday, January 31st 9pm. And will be playing the Love Monkey Viewing Party (acoustic set) on January 31st, 8pm. Pianos Upstairs [158 Ludlow @ Stanton]"
UPDATE: this just in our inbox. "Aimee Mann will be performing and acting on "Love Monkey." She recently filmed an episode (which is to air Jan 31) where she plays herself, and is a friend to Tom Farrell (Cavanaugh) and gives him advice on how to get an artist on Letterman. Aimee also performs."

Actually, "Stuckeyville" was Northvale, NJ. I went there when the show was cancelled and they had a sale of all the props. I walked around the bowling alley and was totally geeking out.
Ha! I took pictures of the Stuckey Bowl just yesterday.
"Ed" was filmed in Nyack and Northvale! The first season was filmed in Nyack, when I lived there. The filming was such a hassle that the village limited the amount of filming that could take place and the production had to move.
interestingly, the opening credit sequences for ed was shot in westfield, nj. why they did that in a difference place i can't say.
Love Monkey shooting on Clarkson/Carmine and Varick Street today (1/11)
i read this book a few years ago, and if i recall correctly, the protagonist was a journalist. i think that they (cbs) shouldn't have changed that.
They filmed a few episodes at the recording studio my husband works at in Williamsburg. Billy Joel was a guest star while they were filming last week!
i live on powers street in williamsburg and they've been there at least 2 separate occasions filming. it's sort of a pain in the ass b/c you can't park on the street that day and if you do, they tow your car away.
At least they aren't filming the damn thing with LA or Toronto or Vancouver as a cheap and inferior subsitute for New York City.
Question begging is a form of circular argument (i.e., the speaker/writer assumes his own conclusion). This means that the TV show in doesn't "beg the question" about whether its New York location will feature cutting edge New York bands. It merely *raises* that question. You and your editors should know the difference.
I worked on the show. The first season was filmed in Nyack, but when it was picked up again, it was filmed on set in Northvale, NJ. The opening scenes are filmed in Westfield, NJ and many of the outside scenes were also filmed there throughout every season.
It's gonna blow.
This show looks awful. Ooh, the glorious life and loves of an A&R rep for a major label. Wonderful.
I hope this is the start of bad juju for CBS, no one wants another Ed. or Ed like putz.
The guy is irritating period.
But then you gotta have the opposite of Life according to Jim.
I forgot the only person more irritating at the moment is Seth Green plugging his new show.
i am so confused! the only great "up and coming band" named "eugene" that i know from nyc can be found at eugenerock.com. they frequently play at cbgbs and have a female lead singer and male musicians...but they are not on the show. it appears that the supposed "nyc band" named eugene that appears in this show is from california!? is the show promoting real bands or pretend bands?
