I'll second the Thompson St. spot, been going there for years. As an added bonus, conversation is usually conducted in Italian (ditto for the music on the radio), so if you listen carefully you might pick up some language skills while you wait.

Thanks for the post, Jake. My grandpa Fred, God rest his soul, was a barber in a shop like this for 60-something years. Barber pole, light blue smock, Barbasol, Italian accents, the whole bit. Great to see there's some of these places still around.

this place was a lot better before the lady who runs the salon around the corner bought it and renovated. the chairs used to face in the other direction and it was way more authentic.

rocco's good, john (the guy in the picture) is ok, avoid the russians at all costs.

Thanks for not making the obvious "...Two bits" joke. It is much appreciated.

There is a place on Thompson (btw W 3rd and Bleeker) that is another 'old school Italian" barber shop. I strongly recommend them as well. Hot towel, straight edge, etc. ... but if you don't have the HOT FOAM, it's all a waste of time! Hot foam makes it all good!
