Mariah is Large and In Charge!

2006_1_mariah1.jpg

We're not normally into celebrities, but ever since her appearance at Times Square on New Year's, we can't get our mind off Mariah Carey and her rapidly ballooning weight. We were watching in high-definition, and it was impossible to look away-- every dent in her huge thighs and massive breasts was right there, in stunning detail. But hey-- lots of guys like a girl with a badonkadonk, a little junk in her trunk, a little jelly, so in our opinion, Mariah's got nothing to worry about. In fact, we'd like to see her go all out-- Kirstie Alley style-- check out the full version of Hollywood Rag's fat-morphs above to get an idea of what we're talking about. [Related: more fat celebrity morphs.]

Lane Bryant needs a new spokeswoman after Anna Nicole lost all her weight, Trimspa, BABY!

Seriously, I have always loved Mariah since the early 90's, her voice and beauty are incredible. She's super hot in her latest videos. She might have out on some holiday pounds on her Time Square performance, but I still thought she looks

    mighty fine.

It's pathetic that certain posters can accuse Gothamist of encouraging eating disorders for

    such a post.

  • e.v.s.

real, acutal pictures i mean. not this crap reproduced above.

  • e.v.s.

large??? come on, i just looked at pictures and for crissakes, the woman looks just fine and shapely. and yeah, this is a ridiculous post for gothamist. enough with superficial celebrity gossip already. i thought we were here for nyccentric stories, not stupid 7th grade girlgossip. jeez.

Actually, I've noticed that amongst the Gothamist contributors, Jake Dobkin's posts tend to be the most incongruous- either snippy and mean. Or wildly inappropriate. His contributions stand out very much to the other more genial Gothamist posts. And sometimes it is jarring and the tone for Gothamist gets all out of wack.

And I agree with the other commenters. A female artist looks heavier [probably normal looking in real life], and people just descend on that with such malicious glee. I'm disappointed that Gothamist would take part in this kind of "entertainment."

"So if you're going to berate anyone about eating disorders and such, you might want to explore why the vast majority of people are silent out there when she was mutilating her body for 'beauty'."

You've got it, Jack. Most people don't say a word when someone like Mariah Carey or Angelina Jolie gets collagen injections, nose jobs, breast implants, cheekbone implants, lipo, or heaven knows what else.

    More Cushin' for the Pushin'

As for the irate feminists, for god sake, lighten up, have a pie.

  • davis

Yea no one ever commented on the weight of Luther Vandross or Meatloaf or Fats Domino. And when Dean Martin chubbed up no one said anything. And no one noticed when Vince Neil started bloating out. Oh wait...

  • Dear Gothamist: please leave this sort of thing to Go Fug Yourself and The Superficial. They're much, much, much better at it than you.

  • Samantha T

I'd love for male singers to be subjected to the same scrutiny.

  • Peter

Oh come on. Drawing attention to Mariah's weight isn't going to force anyone beyond their will into an eating disorder. Eating disorders occur less as a result of body image and more as a result of stress and the need for control over *something*.

Gothamist is merely putting into words what the TV cameras already stated. :P Are you mad at the cameras? No. You're not.

  • When every other broad on TV is a size ZERO (!!!!) of course Mariah's gonna look a little chunky. She's probably a whopping size eight or so.

  • Mariah on her heaviest day looks like me on my thinnest day.

  • Greg

Mariah's finally starting to look good. (not in the photoshopped image)

  • Mariah is a little more zaftig than she was, but she's certainly not fat. We're too attuned to seeing broomsticks on TV and in the magazines, so when a woman with 'real' proportions shows up, she gets skewered for being obese.

Still not my kinda pop music though.

  • those aren't photoshopped?

  • Anonymous

    those photos are doctored,no?

  • Melanie

    Mean, yes. Funny, HELL YES!

  • Anne Rexick, far be it for me to actually defend a Gothamist post, but lets face some facts about Mariah Carey. Or how about one fact.

She's practically a complete product of plastic surgery thanks to Tommy Mottola. He "discovered" her, paid for the surgeries and WHOOMP there she is.

Her ballooning weight makes complete sense. She has never taken care of her own body and waits for others to pay to fix it.

So if you're going to berate anyone about eating disorders and such, you might want to explore why the vast majority of people are silent out there when she was mutilating her body for "beauty".

Come on, if I wanted to read petty, mean-spirited celebrity gossip, I'd read Gawker. That period photo thing this weekend was in bad taste, too. Sure it's okay to be gross and irreverent and poke fun, but one of the reasons I like Gothamist is you're NOT mean. Except for these two examples in recent days. Please stop it, dangit.

  • lolz

Way to go, you enlightened minds! Grateful that we have you guys to remind us that Mariah's fluctuating water weight is what really matters about her. No one cares if the woman's actually gorgeous or talented anyway.

  • Hey, I worked hard for my eating disorder- don't give Gothamist all the credit.

  • Anne Rexick

Good job! Gothamist just caused a few more women to get eating disorders! Be proud of yourself.
