WHAT?!?! You mean you didn't lock in your rate with ConEd Solution? When my girlfriend and I moved in together back in August, we signed up for ConEd Solution's Green Power and locked in a rate of 12.9 cents/kwh. [It was 12.1 cents if you choose the non-green option.] Luckily we did this before Katrina hit and energy price skyrocketted.

Anyways, if you haven't done so already, do what the previous commenter said and lock in your rates. It's only going to go up from here.

Gotta love public companies. For the last four quarters, ConEd, a $10 billion public company, had net profit margins of 8.4%, 4.8%, 6.5%, and 2.3%. On top of that, their Chairman received netincome of about $2.5 million, the CEO - $900,000. Their stock, over the last 12 months, is also up a healthy 9%. AND, KeySpan, another public company, has been profitable for all but one of the last ten years.

I recommend signing up for green power providers. You can do this through the ConEd website.

First, I highly recommend people sign-up for con-edison's green power option which encourages investment in renewables in NY(http://www.conedsolutions.com/Residential/GreenPowerMain.htm). You can lock-in a low rate for the whole year.

Second, go to home depot and pick-up a couple of six packs of Compact Fluorescent Lightbulbs (CFLs). They are 70% more efficient than incandescents. Read more here: http://www.theoildrum.com/story/2005/10/18/223313/23).

Lastly, just turn stuff off - lights, computers, TVs, etc.

I was able to reduce my electric demand from 8 Kwh/day to 3 Kwh/day.

That's the least competent logo parody I've ever seen. "Anti-alias" - look it up.
