Make Your Own MTA Sign!

2006_1_fakemtasign1.jpg

Speaking of the MTA, our pal Andy created an instant, fake MTA sign-maker. You get to choose the line and message, and it makes you a PDF to print out. Remember: this is for entertainment purposes only-- if you look closely, the sign is clearly fake, and doesn't contain any MTA trademarks or images-- so you can't use it to re-reroute the 7 Train to your house. Send Andy all comments and requests for new features at his email address.

well, yeah i agree, the graphics aren't dead on. I spent most of the time making it programmatically format any random text you guys send it.

  • Its OK for a quick joke, but it isn't 100% accurate. Any reasonably competent graphic artist can come up with something that is a dead ringer. Although you may need a couple hundred dollars worth of software to do it, though.

That site might just be the best thing ever.

  • fun!!!!

  • i'm not sure there's anything here that would require andy to shut down-- he's not using any MTA trademarks, and i doubt they've copyrighted the design of their alert signs. even if they have, he probably has a strong defense under the "parody" exception of the fair-use law in the united states. lawyers, what do you think?

  • James

How long until the MTA lawyers shut this down? I am going with 5 hours.

  • Hi Smitty!

Just type it in yourself until it's fixed...it's totally worth the energy!!

  • apparently you guys aren't aware of the "gothamist 15 minute rule"-- if we catch the typo within the first fifteen minutes, it's not a mistake-- it's an endearing mannerism.
