Guess Where NYC: Train Video

2006_1_trainanim1.jpgWhen we first glanced at this video clip this morning, we thought it might have been taken from the F-line near Smith & 9th Street-- but when we looked closer, we realized that we were waaaay off. Can any of you train nerds make the identification quicker than we did? It took us 15 seconds into the video before we were absolutely sure. First one to buzz in with the correct answer wins our hearty praise!

Somewhat but not-really related: Forgotten-NY has a great photoessay on the first 28 subway stations in New York. City Hall and Astor Place are probably the most beautiful, with their amazing mosaics and terra-cotta details, but all the stations are great.

I think it's the Hell Gate Bridge, on the Astoria side.

Just from the still shot I can tell it's Hell Gate. Been up there too many times... the factory is one of the old eagle electric plants that is now being made into apartments.

If you want to be historically accurate it is the New York Connecting Railroad's Hell Gate Bridge.

The plaque on the bridge actually names it the "New York Connecting Railroad East River Arch Bridge", if you want to get technical.
