Cartoons at MoMa

2006_01_arts_emilyhubley2.gifDespite the fact that we saw Hedwig, we hadn't heard of Emily Hubley until we read about An Evening with her (and her friends) at MoMa. This may be because we consume most of our animation in the form of Family Guy. However, chances are if you can have people spend money on an entire evening with you then you're pretty awesome.

Hubley introduces the highbrow set to cartoons animation. So get your lowbrow ass over to this fancy museum place tomorrow night where she’ll be showcasing a new short and some of her animated feature-in-progress titled, The Toe Tactic.

The program also includes the premiere of Octave, a new short comprising eight brief meditations with music by Yo La Tengo. Older clips from Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and Death by Design will also be shown. A discussion about the collaborative process with filmmakers and composers follows the screenings. More information on the event can be found at the MoMa site.

Wednesday // 8pm // MoMA [11 W 53rd St] // Free with museum admission

Emily Hubley is sister of Yo La Tengo's Georgia Hubley. Both are step-sisters, in a way, to Mr. Magoo.
