The Pita's Weekly Music Picks, Hangover Edition

What's your New Year's resolution? Is it to check out more live music, perhaps, and not be such a couch potato? Dance more, drink more, veg less? You have come to the right place. Here's some of what's happening around town this week:

Not much going on in the early part of the week, as several clubs are closed. Maybe Monday is the night to check out former America's Next Top Model contender Shandi Sullivan spinning 80s tunes upstairs at Pianos? On Tuesday, sophisticated songstress Rebecca Gates, formerly of the Spinanes, is performing solo at the Knitting Factory Tap Bar.

Thursday is the first night of Lolita Bras' January residency at Pianos. Those things can mean big things for a band, we hear. They're followed by the ubiquitous "very special guests."

When Friday rolls around, Gothamist suggests you head for the Knitting Factory and prepare to get down with Supersystem, the newest incarnation of El Guapo (the danciest act ever on Dischord Records). Or go the indie-pop route with Ivy, Adam Schlesinger's other band, at Bowery. Or get your metal fix at Nokia Theater, with New Jersey's own God Forbid supporting Anthrax. Finally, Damon & Naomi, of Galaxie 500 fame, will be playing their gentle folk accompanied by a horn duo at Tonic. Decisions, decisions.

Matador's the Double brings their chaotic, noisy indie rock to Bowery Ballroom on Saturday night, with Celebration and Kyp Malone of TV on the Radio supporting.

On Sunday, Gothamist will be at Pianos for angular Les Savy Fav-influenced band Detachment Kit and blogger-buzzed Tapes 'n Tapes. Meanwhile, at Tonic, Craig Wedren (ex-frontman of Shudder to Think and current leader of disco-pop band Baby) and collaborator Amy Miles (also of Baby) perform separately, supporting Mason Dixon.
